Black Powder Cannon

I am thinking about a golf ball size black powder cannon. Any legal problems with having one built? What kind of a charge would be required to launch a golf ball?

thanks

Saw one (more of a mortar then a cannon) a guy built that launched bowling balls (about 400 yards, I think). Yeah, yer right on track asking about legality before undertaking such a project, might help to specify which state you're planning on risking terrorist charges in

There shouldn't be any legal problems building or buying a muzzle loading cannon but check your state regs. 100-150 grs. should do nicely. Barrel should be as thick as the bore and made from quality tubing(no seam) with a threaded not welded breech plug. Or even better bored from a piece of 1018 steel.

I built a scale moehorn mortar that shoots cement-filled 12 ounce beer cans 350-400 yards. 500 grains of cannon or 1F black powder does that trick. Mine is basically a scaled-up version of the golf-ball mortar you want to make and I found the plans on this same site.

Look around here. http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fu...um.php?fid/20/ Use the search feature it'll probably tell you what you want to know and then some. If it doesn't, somebody will know. Just ask.
