Suggestions for 7mm08 load

Im not a reloader but have a friend with the setup and have access to use it with his supervision after I buy the proper dies etc.

I will be starting out loading 7mm-08 for deer/hog hunting. I caught Nosler 140gr partition SP @ $17 for 50 and stocked up on those.

Any suggestions on powder etc for these?

I have a short barrel Model 7 which likes those bullets with Win 760 or IMR 4064. I don't shoot it much lately, but I am sure others will be along with other suggestions as well.

Thanks FITASC. That is actually one of the ones I will be using this load in. The other being a 700 with 22" barrel.

Thanks bedlamite. Id looked at the Nosler page but not that one.

If you are loading for more than one gun, this complicates things .....

.... I have two .270WIN rifles of the same make and model, and the chamber on one is so much tighter than the 2nd gun that once fired, neck sized cases from the other rifle won't chamber in it without some effort on the bolt ....

You may want to use different brands ofcases to differnentiate ammo for each.....

As for powder, IME, IMR4064 is pretty versatile...... and is my go-to for my short barrelled 7-08.

You have to work up the load for your rifle. What shoots well out of one rifle won't necessarily out of another. Even 2 identical consecutively numbered rifles.
I'd be thinking the H4350 to start too though. Give the highest velocities for a 140.

I have had my best luck with Varget in my 2, 7-08's, I did load some 139 gr hornady ssts for a down south hunt that shot very well but I was dissapointed that they lost all their energy inside the deer and didnt exit, killed deer, no blood trail. I also loaded some sierra 140 gr gamekings and shot a deer up here in NH while it was feeding at 80 yds, it was facing me with its head down so I shot it between the shoulder blades..DRT of course and the bullet went all they way thru...
I have done alot of reloading for my 7-08's and have tried many different powders and bullet weights, very willing to share my results.

I had a 708 back in the day. I don't remember shooting Partitions but I did shoot several different brands in that weight range. Win 760 worked well for several loads I worked up.

IMR 4350 for heavier bullets and H414 for lighter. I load mine from 120 gr to 160 grain. Plus one on h4350. I just can't find it.

Varget or Ramshot Big Game

Varget has worked best with me pushing 140 grn bullets, shot a 10 in group at 1000 yards with my Tikka T3 Lite and a 3-9 Nikon. Ramshot also works well for me but Varget certainly has the edge. FWIW my gun seems to shoot a touch better with 120 grn bullets. give yours a try and see what it likes.
