Why do you have a C&R license?

In reading many posts in the C&R threads, and others I am wondering why you have a C&R FFL?
I got mine 9 years ago because there were a lot of firearms at good prices that I could order direct, and save a lot of money on. Kind of like the "It was on sale" excuse cleche for women!
Others post about some really cool classic collectible firearms. Where are you with your C&R?

I got a C&R because I love the older Military Surplus Rifles and Pistols.
and enjoy shooting and cleaning them.
I really like the Mausers and Mosin Rifles.

I got mine because I got tired of paying $25 for a yellow sheet every time I bought a $70 gun. I think the first day I had the license was the last time I had any money.

I think the first time it really rang home how many guns I'd bought was when I had to move all the ammo crates out of the guest room. Never doing that again. I'll just throw a quilt over the stash and call it a sofa.

I like to take a turn back before 1968, when you could get a nice Mauser or something delivered to your door.

Haven't been able to find a $29.95 Mauser, though, still looking....

I was mowing lawns for the money to buy a Luger, then came the 1968 law and that ended that....pretty soon came senior year in high school and other concerns, anyway.

I've retired my C&R as of last year. The past few years my
collecting activity for eligible items has been pretty limited.
Basically, I've achieved my goals pretty much so the few
that I do pick up I'll just pay my transfer fee. I've got a guy
that only charges me $20, so it's not that much. Of course,
on the selling side you don't need an FFL.

I just got mine.
There are some milsurps that I plan on owning, and given that the license is the cost of one transfer- and is good for three years- it didn't make sense not to get it.

I do think it tends to make some guys pay more for guns than they may really be worth since they can get it "themselves"...not a big deal in my book.

Since a transfer only costs me $30, having a C&R is not a solution to high FFL transfer fees. From what I understand, transfers cost a lot more in some areas, and that can make the C&R more important for those that want to buy more than one or two eligible weapons.

I like older pistols, a lot. Unless I want to hang around all the local shops on a regular basis (and there aren't many of them) and hope for a gem to pop up, (and there aren't many of them, either), I'm reduced to online shopping.

With a C&R I can get what I want, have it shipped to my door, pay zero tax, zero transfer fee, zero fee to state police to pay for paperwork, and pay wholesale prices to boot. So what's not to love?

I got mine for both reasons. Milsurp weapons are great fun to collect and shoot. And the old non-milsurp guns are just the same with different histories to tell.

Not enough choices in the poll. First of all, I got my C&R to save money on firearms that are often less expensive from large online dealers. Second of all, I got it because online dealers often offer what I cannot find at local stores. Thirdly, I got it because I can also buy directly from folks on sites like Gun Broker if the gun is a C or R. Again, I save money because I don't have to pay an FFL to receive it.

I have bought different types of guns with it, both military surplus and commercially marketed rifles too. I am not too sure any of the commercially marketed ones I have purchased would be considered classic collectibles except maybe one. The others are good shooters in nice condition.

I let my C&R expire awhile back but the reason I got it was becuase the gunshops around here never or only very rarely carried any of the WW2 carbines, garands, etc that I was interested in. With the C&R I was able to find them on forums like this or gunbrokers, and gun shows and have the convenience of being shipped directly to me and avoid transfer fees.

Love the old military weapons!!!!!!!!! Have bought many at some great prices shipped. For $30 for 3 yrs. you can't go wrong with a C&R FFL.

There is only two (mebbe just one) places in town that will order/transfer C&R firearms; small town. Another reason is only the UPS man and I know when one is delivered.
