.44 Mag

Anyone have a load for wild boar? Thinking of using my 44 mag Marlin. I was thinking of using Hornady 300 grains.

Hornady lists 2400 at starting with 14.2 gr at 1000 fps and a top load at 17.5 grains at 1250, I have used this powder with good results. I have also used h 110 starts at 16.7 at 1000 fps and top load at 19.6 grs at 1250 fps. I have used the full H 110 loads with good accuracy. Also Blue Dot at 10.8 grain at 1000 fps and I have loaded this as a light load with this powder. All these come from the forth edition. These are from a Ruger Super Blackhawk revolver. I use the 2400 most of the time for hunting deer or hogs.

In a Marlin you will get about 1400 fps with the 2400 17.5 grain load. H 110 will give a little more, you can find higher velocity loads, but this is what I recommend.

BTW: be sure to start with the lowest load and work up!

In a strong action, a 95-105% by volume load of H110 under a Hornady XTP 300 grain is a pretty good choice.

You might also try these:

Ditto the above.

A good 310 grain hardcast bullet would also be an excellent choice.
