Could be. Who made the 32 autos you're having problems with? I've never looked at the primer after firing autos, but I've only shot one box of them. Didn't have a problem. I think they were remingtons that I got from Walmart.

My 733 only has one letter prefix - a U, so I'm guessing it's a 1958

Actually, the best deal on .32 S&W Long ammo is from Ammunition To Go. They have Fiocchi .32 Long for $16.95/box of 50 for a FMJ and $13.95 for wadcutters.
Avoid buying in boxes of 20! You'll pay more per round than if you buy a box of 50 due to the packaging. Current manufacturers of .32 Long are: Remington Winchester Federal Fiocchi Aguila (Mexico) Prvi Partizan (Serbia) MagTech

I'm really surprised to see as much activity on this thread. I too am a owner of a H&R Model 732. I bought it new in either 1965 or 1966. I can't find the original doc or box or anything else. The reason those years come to mind was that it was my First Handgun. I had Hunting rifles but no hand guns and I bought it because I had just gotten married and wanted something small that my wife and I could use for home protection.
But I'm having a problem with the list of serial number prefixes that "noelf2" posted earlier. My old "Side Kick" has a "A" prefix and I know it wasn't manufactured in 1940. So I think that list is bogus. Damm I'm going to have to get some ammo and shoot it. I haven't shot it in at least 30 years.

Like I said, I found it on another forum. It seems right for the 3 H&R's I have, but I don't have any made before the 70's. Definitely get some ammo. I don't know why but I have a lot of fun with this little gun on the range. If I could find a good pocket holster for it, I'd even carry it now and then.

Federal makes a .32 long wadcutter loaded to 130 ft lbs. It's the stoutest factory loading I could find after a lot of looking. Most are about 100 ft lbs.

Pretty gun
While back i went to a gun show, found myself standing in front of a display case starring at a S&W chrome plated 32 S&W long. model 30. The dealer behind the counter says to me"That gun looks pretty enough to kiss , don't it! " I replyed "Yes it does". It was total fixation, I could not tear myself away from it. There were no burn marks on it from previous fireings. There was no ring around the clyinder, no ware anywhere! Thing is I had never allow myself the luxury of buying a pretty gun. I was a man possesed, I purchased the revolver. Took it to the range put two cylinder thru it and stood back horrify realized that i blacking the cylinder. I could not do that too my Pretty Gun. I have since purchased two model 30 of a lesser grade and one H&R model 732 in excellent condition. I shoot the three of them alot and very much enjoy doing so. I truely enjoy shooting the S&W 32long, and I enjoy looking at and handing my Pretty gun. So, Guys , how strange am I? Go ahead I can take it, or maybe I can't either way fire away.

Another .32 Ammo question
Greetings,
I have a H&R model 732 with the barrel marked 32 S&W (serial # AEXXXXX). From what I read the manufacture date is 1968 (swing out cylinder). My question is: Can I shoot 32 short Colt rounds out of this gun? Yes they do fit, but my opinion is no. Can anybody confirm this? Additionally I believe that I can shoot 32 S&W and 32 S&W longs. Thanks in advance for any responses! |

Yachtsman, you can shoot the shorts or longs. I recently put a 732
on layaway at a pawn shop. It has the AM prefix and is in great condition. I had a credit at a pawn shop and they didn't have any other firearms I was interested in so I went for it. I figure it would make an okay back up gun.... |

Not so sure about shooting 32 s&w long in a 732 marked only 32 s&w. My 732 actually is marked 32 S&W L.

32 S&W HP
I got some Magtech 32 HP (made in Brazil) for 26.00 for a box of 50. That is way up from a few years ago for 32s made by Rem. of the good old U.S.A. sold for 16.00 a box. I like it, a lot of gun in a small package and cheap.

Aim Surplus has 32s&w long LRN for 14 a box of 50. The .prvi stuff. I got 4 boxes of the same about 2 years ago. Shot them all and now reload them with .312 85 grain HP/XTPs or 100gr DEWCs.

Qoute:Further inquiry
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Can anyone give me the manufacturer's website, background info on the company? Seems that locally the .32S&W cartridge is fairly rare. I think it's in the $12 per 50 round range. Am correct in my assumption that this is a DA/SA revolver? Free is a good price, no? " Question? Where are you finding .32 S&W for $12 per 50 rd box? This round is going for $33 per 50 rds in my area. |
