I bought my Springfield Armory mil spec M1911 a few months before they folded and had to reorganize. I think that was around 1990. From what I understand these older models used Brazilian forgings and were machined in the US. Mine had a bad habit of hitting me in the head with ejected cases until I tuned the ejector a bit. changed out a few bits over the years. A Chip McCormick sear, a beaver tail grip safety and a few other SS bits make the black oxide finish pop...

My first? A Rock Island GI. I really hated it even though it went bang every time. The sights were abysmal.
I bought a Dan Wesson Valor for my bday several years ago. Enjoyed it, it was a sweet shooter, but not enough to keep it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

My first 1911 was a SS Colt Gold Cup National Match circa 1996. A wedding gift from my wife.

My first was a Colt Combat Commander, all steel 4 1/4" barrel. Dan Wesson wasn't around back then and I could barely afford what I got. If it were today I'd save up for a DW, not a doubt.

I've only owned one 1911, and still have it: SR1911. A fine piece of a shooter. It eats anything its fed, and asks no questions:

A nice looking 1911, and one can't really go wrong with a Ruger.

My first M1911A1 was a WWII Remington Rand M1911A1. My former pastor has this piece now in MD.

DE1911G
Been a shooting enthusiast for years but always felt sort of like a commie because I didn't own a 1911. Finally treated myself while evacuated from Irma and got a Desert Eagle 1911G because I just loved the trigger. Having put a few hundred rounds downrange, I realize why there are so many 1911 fanatics. It is awesome to shoot abd amazing accuracy - was putting holes through holes. New favorite gun.

I just picked up a stainless Springfield 1911A1 GI for myself, as well as three more Rock Islands for my small shop. There's a seller on GB with the RIA's @ $369.99 + $14.05 shipping, which is less than my dealer cost.

My Springfield Armory, bought with my IRS tax return in 1989 ($400)(stock), mil spec. I added ; an Ed Brown barrel and firing pin, Wilson Combat sear, hammer, trigger, bushing and guide rod, Diamond Wood Rosewood grip slabs, Brownells SS grip screws. I really like the floral carved El Passo Saddlery Pancake holster. Last edited by moose fat; November 1, 2017 at 04:10 AM. Reason: bigger pic |

My first 1911 was a Springfield Armory gun that I bought in 1998. It's been gone for a while now and every 1911 I now have is a Colt.

My first 1911 was a Colt Combat Elite from the 1980s. It is a Mark IV Series 80 but it is evidently a transition gun since it had (and still has) a collet bushing.
Here are the original grips I still own: |

First 1911
My first 1911 is a Colt Government MkIV Series 70 bought in 1978.
Served as my EDC for 40 years. Still as reliable as ever, it could use a reblue, but I take perverse pleasure in it's honest wear. |

Mine was a Remington Rand 1911A1, an Army issue gun that I carried for part of my first tour in Nam. Loved the old beast, and at the time it would stay on a coffee cup at 25 yds from a rest. Used a "tanker" type, cross chest holster (kept it out of the way with the acft's shoulder harness). With a cpl extra magazines, I felt well armed in a slit trench or mortar pit on some really dark nights. Wish I still had it but my DEROS required an equipment turn to the squadron clerk...Rod
