Combined Reloading Experience...

I don't think this has been done here before. There is a lot of hand loaders on this forum and is a very good place to come for information. Personally, I have been loading for 42 years now. Wow that makes me feel old.

I wonder if everyone listed what experience they have in years, what the combined loading experience is on this board, in years. Add to it, keep a running tally. See what it is.

I have 42.

I started when my dad gave me my set up on my 13th birthday. That will be fifty years a go the 4th of next month. Six days and I am old..... retired for eight years and broken.

Didn't know I was to list the whats and don't remember the whens.
Started with .222 Rem and 303 Brit. Added and dropped - 7.7 Jap, 7.5 Swiss, .30 Carb, 30-30, .38/357, 45-70, 30-40 Krag, .243, 7MM Mauser, 7MM Rem Mag. Dropped the .222 Rem. Added and continue - 9MM, 30.06, .308/7.62, .223/5.56, .32S&W, .38 S&W, 8MM Nambu, .45 ACP, .44 Mag, .40S&W and .300 BlackOut.
Not a shotgun person and don't count black powder. I know I've missed something.

Add .375 H&H Mag. Dabbled with .32Auto, .380Auto, 45 Colt, 6MM Rem, 350 Rem Mag and .458 Win Mag for a short time.

If I've been loading one cartridge for 15 years and another for 10 does that make 25? If that's the case, put me down for around 80 years.

I think that brings our sum to about 180 years so far.

14 years so far...... I don't know what's wrong with my math, but it looks like about 127 years so far on this thread.

Sport45, I don't think we ought to go into how many years we've been loading each caliber, some of us have loaded a hineyload of different ctg's and trying to put the math to mine alone could quite possibly make my brains esplode.

I agree with 10-96, this should be a linear calculation with no parallels to be most accurate.

Started casting and hand loading in 1972 - 40 years. And still learning.

I load for at least 10 different hand cartridges (jacketed and cast) and at least 15 different rifle cartridges (jacketed and cast) as well as 16 and 12 guage shotgun (shot, buckshot, and slugs).

Been loading seriously, on my own for 4 years now. Estimated the other day I've done ~20K rounds in that time frame. However, I helped my dad load for our hunting rifles throughout my childhood. In high school I loaded all my 243 ammunition which wasn't much, but I knew how to do it at that point. So it's kinda hard to put a real number on it. I wouldn't necessarily credit my childhood years as excellent experience, however I knew the basics of it since I was very young.

So, all in all ~ 18-20 years.

But only 4 years of serious reloading at a much higher volume and precision. I've learned more in the last 4 years than I did for the first 15. My dad loads strictly for economy. Minute of 6 inch diameter rock at 150 yards is about all he strives for and usually gets that with his first load for any given rifle. Say what you will about that, the man fills his tags and I ate a lot of deer and elk growing up.

So, average that as you see fit. I'd say at least 5-6 years. I didn't load much if at all in my undergraduate years, but it's not like you forget how to do it.
