Midwest industries 15 inch key mod rail

I plan on doing my first AR15 build, and I was just wondering if the Midwest industries keymod rail is a good handguard.

I don't have that particular rail, but I have other MI products. From my experience, they make good products.

I have their AK scope mount--very well made IMO. I generally don't hang anything off my handgaurds so depending on the build I may or may not spend big bucks on them. I happen to like the ergonomics of diamondhead rails but that's just a personal preference.

"15" keymod" is like saying red Chevy, MI makes fine products but many variations of the hand guard to suit your needs. I particularly like and use extensively the SS series of guards because of the smaller diameter, strong construction and ease of installation.
MI also makes excellent sights, extended charging handles and other stuff.
Find the style of guard that pleases you and go for it.

I have one on my 300 Blk. It's great! Just don't try bashing down doors with it because light means less strength. I have the one with the smooth top and just a bit of rail at the end for a light or Iron site. On another AR, I have a much heavier 15" rail from Viking Tactics and it's strong as can be but gets heavy after a long day on the range.

I would buy the MI 15" rail again for another AR for sure.

Mine is Mlok though...

I have several 15 " handguards, one MI, and three Omega . I paid less for all three of the Omega's than I did for the MI, and they fit & function just as good if not better.

Now I’m also considering the BCM KMR Alpha handguard.. just too many decisions for me I can’t take it.

MI makes good stuff. I'd also consider ALG as well in the same price range (though probably in MLOK unless you're really heavily invested in Keymod accessories).

I have the BCM KMR on a BCM upper. It's awesome. But not really any better than the ALG rail and a good bit more expensive.

I have used several of their SSK series free-float tubes. I like them, and they're pretty decent.

Ok I thought the question was about MI products but since every ever maker is being included here is my 2 cents worth: Aero Alpha series, light, small diameter, ergonomic, neat attaching system. ALG. Really good products. Faxton makes great barrels and a nice hand guard.

MI stuff is good...

I really like my KMR handguard though, I like it better than my MI.

Unless you just want keymod, already have keymod stuff, or are getting a great deal on the rail...

I would suggest m-lok, it has better support from all the accessory manufacturers, and its a better mounting system.

BCM is about to release an m-lok version of the KMR, called the MMR.
