New Uberti Trapdoor Springfield Cartridges
I have a new Uberti Trapdoor Springfield Carbine in .45-70. I also have a few boxes of Hornady 325 gr FTX Leverevolution loads for another firearm. Can I shoot these rounds in the Uberti ? I can shoot modern smokeless in this thing if I choose, correct ?
My real intention is to reload with black powder and cast bullets. The very brief manual that came with the carbine also says that the CUP pressure should not exceed 18,000 for black powder reloads, True ? That manual I mentioned is really brief. I think Uberti is trying to save money ! The Bishop |

Just from the action standpoint you need to stay pretty close to the 18,000 CUP limits.

Should be OK on the Hornady, but you can actually call the people who make the ammunition & ask.
And yes, you can shoot smokeless in your Uberti. Stay around 405-grain bullets & mild pressures, don't go with hotter stuff. Denis |

You need to see if its proof spec for a 45-70 if they are its 28,000 PSI loads so they may work. A original gun sure 17-19 PSI but a new one is proffed at like 52,000 PSI to shoot most anything but ruger loads.

I would need to see documentation on that 52k psi. My personal opinion is nothing hotter than remington 45-70 gov't. I don't believe your trapdoor design will handle anything that hot (52k).

Thank You !
Thank you all for the info. I have e-mailed Uberti, and will call Hornady direct to check this out.
