M1 Carbine Staking
I just procured a barreled M1 Carbine receiver. It has neither front, nor rear sights. Upon me installing them, would I have to stake them in place, or would basic instillation keep them secured enough?

Rear sights were staked in place because the Carbines were expected to be used in places where replacing/fixing 'em wasn't possible. That and dovetail tolerances were a bit loose as parts were made by everybody and his brother plus all their cousins. Staking isn't a terribly difficult thing to do. Just needs the right tools.
The only part of a front sight that actually gets staked is the key. And it's not really staked. There's a how-to(plus just about everything else you need to know) in the manual on Biggerhammer. Note the need for the provided UN & PW. http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/

Both sights can be tapped into place if you do not have the military tools designed for these tasks, use a non maring punch. As indicated the front sight does not need staking and only a few manufacturers did it, if using an adjustable rear sight stake it in the two points provided however I would not stake a flip sight as moving it is your only method of windage adjustment.
