Accurate#5

I wonder whether anyone has used Accurate #5 under a .38 special 125 grain lead bullet. If so, how much, and if for +P loads, how much?

Has anyone been using W231 for this bullet?

Have used both powders for jacketed 125 grain bullets, but never have loaded for a plain lead bullet in that grain weight. In my chiefs stainless, the powders are pretty much a toss up, accuracy wise. Don't have a chrono to tell you velocity, but the AA#5 load has a bit more muzzle jump.

Wrangler5, I too have been noticing the absence of AA #5 at my regular shooting suppliers. Sorry I can't help.

I've been loading 5.4gr of W231 under a 125gr JHP (Hornady XTP) in .38Spls (+P) and it works out fine.

I checked the usual suspects... er, places... and didn't see any AA#5. If you do find some, be aware that if you have to have it shipped to you, the HAZMAT charge is now $20. You might want to see it you can find something similar locally. That basically doubles the charge for a pound of powder.

Strange, AA#5 is and has been available at several places for quite a while.
Accurate reloading manual lists Sierra 125 grain JHP and #5 at 6.1 grains starting load, with a max of 6.8 grains for a 38 Special.

The plus P load for the same bullet 6.4 starting and 7.1 grains.
