What's up with the lead bullet supply?
Everybody I call or try to order on line seems to be out of stock. What's the deal? Is lead becoming a prececious metal? They all seem to be predicting mid to late jan for restocking. At first I thought maybe because folks aren't shooting as much in the winter so the dealer's let the stockl dwindle.

I ordered 1,000 .38spl lead bullets from Berry's web site and they got here faster than you could imagine.
I don't see what you are refering to. Life still goes on. |

Lead Supply Prices
I have heard that wholesale lead prices have increased 20% which will be passed down to bullet customers.
Why? because so much lead is being used by our armies overseas it is affecting the lead supply availability of the wholesalers. I am advising my customers to start saving tire weights that I designed my Saeco molds for and to stock up on my molds which is keeping me busy.

Guys, lead rising in price is not the same as lead being scarce. Think gasoline and heating oil.

Be careful with wheelweights anymore. Even those are using less real lead and more other heavy metals like tin and antimony. If they're still shiny after being on a wheel for awhile , its a good bet they have less lead than those old dull gray ones. My caster clued me in on this.http://www.leadfreewheels.org/

Hey Paul Jones. The price and availability of wholesale lead is being hurt by the EPA regs too at the state and Fed levels. From everything from solder to wheelweights to fishing sinkers to bullets.

Would you be so kind as to share with us what sources for lead bullets you are referring to?

I ordered from three sources recently. National bullet had some Mak .365s to me ASAP. Beartooth bullets took almost a month, but they are an oddball size (.360 for .38 S&W) that the don't have on the shelves.
I did place an order from Berry's on monday, I expect them next week since I got the confirmation that they were shipped....... Hope this helps! |

The following company is located in Colorado. I've had really good luck with them.

Haven't looked at this for a while
Sources included FMR Reloading, michigan ammo, and I can't rememer who else. I ended getting 1000 185Gn Pplated SWC from Berry's. I have loaded a few and they sure make a pretty cartridge. I figured to go to the fully plated as I will shooting indoors for the next few months and if I can avoid a little less lead in my lungs, it bound to be better. The free shipping was hard to turn down also. Reference the discusssion on scarcity of lead, Berry's does now have a lead surcharge based on weight. Greg |

Last time I checked, Black Lion Bullets would sell their bullets for immediate delivery in several alloys that are much softer than most manufacturers.

Lead Bullet Surcharges
I have heard that some lead bullet companies are adding a Lead Surcharge to their regular bullet prices because of the 20% jump in wholesale lead prices. Now is the time to collect and store tire weights before the ECO People change them all to ZINC weights and stop we misguided people from using lead fishing sinkers, solder and lead bullets.
We sure need protecting from accidently swallowing a bullet, tire weight or piece of lead containing solder. Paul Jones Retired California Saeco BulletCasting Tool Company |

Another news item that may be a factor is that Red China recently ordered a very large quantity of lead. It has been speculated that it was ordered for building radiation-resistant bomb shelters.
