Mossberg 550/500 parts compatibility

Short question, will a Mossberg 500 trigger assembly fit and function in an older Mossberg (western field) 550?

Why do you want to replace the trigger assembly? Just curious if it's a parts thing or some other issue?

The short, short version is that I tweaked a spring the wrong way, and now the action does not lock up at all. It is easier to replace the whole sub assembly and they can be had for as little as $35, so....
