I've got the ones I want and whether I've got the cash or not when I get bored or want a new and improved model the older ones get sold to fund the new ones.
The rifles I want/have will all be .30'06 or 7.62x39. The handguns will be 38SPL/357MAG or 9mm. Rimfire rifle and revolver for practice and at one time cheaper trigger time. For me things are fairly well settled. YMMV |

Money, or the lack there of, is my biggest factor.
My wife isn't an issue, and is all for me buying firearms, especially if they are "pretty". She was raised round firearms, enjoys target shooting (used to go out with her dad and put a couple thousand rounds through his M-16 and MP-5 when he was senior swat officer), knows that I enjoy them, and likes the meat I bring home with them. But, even with no car payments............. the mortgage, utilities, food, gas, etc., 16 month old daughter, and a 3 month old son who just got home after 95 days in the NICU.............finances are a bit tight right now. Our income has been cut in half with the wife staying home to look after our son for the next few months, so even a $25 box of bullets or pound of powder is on the back burner until the finances get straightened out, and a gun purchase of several hundred dollars is a pipe dream. I have everything I need for target shooting and hunting, so new firearms would be a "want", not a "need", and I still need to pick up a bigger safe anyway since I can't fit anymore in the current one, so a little pause in the purchasing won't really hurt anything.

Money for the most part
A safe that is getting really crowded doesn't help either!

Money. Otherwise I'd have 30 plus 1911s for every day of the month.

Money and only money. This is a rather expensive interest/hobby. That said, even if money weren't an issue I doubt I'd have a 50 gun collection or something.

Lack of money (fixed income)
No room in safe (see above for extra safe thoughts) Lack of time to shoot what I have Starting to forget how to R&R existing guns Pretty well satisfied (really?) Need more ammo Actually, I did just buy one a couple months ago, first in about 2 years, so I guess I'm not technically done.

As I was typing my previous response I forgot that technically I had purchased a "firearm" (stripped AR lower) less then 2 hours before posting on here so apparently a smaller stream of disposable income isn't actually stopping me... just slowing me down .

Function: Have: Rifle: Sport Mauser Defense shotgun: Mossberg 500 .22 Pistol: Ruger MKII Want and will buy someday: Carbine: Colt le6920 Pistol: SIG P226/ Walther PPQ/ or HK USP Revolver: Ruger GP100 .22 Rifle: Henry H001 CC Gun: Ruger SP101 or S&W 642 OR maybe a Glock 19 Ok I guess that's 8, not 7. Fun guns that I would like and WANT to buy, but are secondary ideas: Springfield 03 Garand Springfield trapdoor Original Mauser in good condition .357 chambered lever gun A Luger A S&W 29 classic A Ruger Vaquero an HK45 w/ silencer Browning Citori Browning BLR in .30-06 Browning Hi-Power Ruger SR1911 Wilson 1911 CZ-75B A Side-by-side shotgun A Ruger NO.1 in a magnum caliber with a Mannlicher style stock A 9MM carbine A Kentucky rifle in .50 A blackpower revolver A Sako rifle More??? I must say, I will be most likely to have a redundancy of pistols. I can easily see owning multiple pistols which perform the same role. Last edited by 8MM Mauser; November 28, 2013 at 12:00 PM. |

What keeps me from buying or owning more firearms? I have a hard time finding guns that suit my needs and wants better than the ones I already have. When I do find a better gun, I get rid of the gun it replaces (who wants to keep an inferior gun?), so I don't end up with "more" guns.

My wife has actually gifted several guns to me, so she isn't the problem. I have enough money to buy some of the things I want, but the CA laws are terrible, and I don't have the time or money to go somewhere else to get guns.

The laws in NY.
Money. Feeling like I'll neglect all of them and never get to shoot most of them. I think that would be about it. Granted, there would be some sort of negative social stigma against someone with over 100 guns, wouldn't there? Probably... That would only work among others who are hardcore collecters, so maybe there are crowds like that in Texas for example. Maybe even Florida, Pennsylvania, but more than anything, more rural areas. Even still, in my area (upstate NY) I feel like that would still be looked down upon, or at least given weird looks... Not sure, just my .02. |

I can afford the guns I want and my wife never questions my gun buying - in fact, if she's with me and I'm struggling with deciding to buy, she'll always push really hard for me to buy it.
What stops me is personal responsibility - as it fits my life with my wife; has nothing to do with anyone else's responsibilities. I don't buy everything I think I'd like to have - whether it's guns, cars, computers, or anything else. I don't generally eat that second piece of pie. I don't get the triple burger. I get the 10 oz steak instead of the 16 or 20 oz. So, the reason I don't own more than I own is that I try not to be a gun-glutton. |

Need mo' money! I have plenty, don't get me wrong, but there are still a bunch more that I want. I really love 1911s and I intend to have one in .38 Super Auto and one in 10mm. That's going to burn close to three thousand dollars right there. I want a Ruger SR1911 as well, there's another $700, then there are four or five rifles that I really would like to have, and they'll require glass and one needs a suppressor... Now I'm depressed.

For me, it is also money. Not that I can't afford a lot of firearms, but it just does not make financial sense for me personally (having other bills to pay). The most I've owned at one time is 10 firearms, and I've downgraded since then.
