What is Your Favorite 45 Caliber Handgun Cartridge?
I'm sure I missed a few and hope to be able to add them...we'll see.
Nope, unable to add once posted!

I chose two, but for very different platforms.
45ACP for my 1911. And 45 Colt for a lever action carbine.

What's the difference between .45 Schofield and .45 Short Colt? I thought the term ".45 Short Colt" was created to describe the .45 Schofield rounds when used in an 1873 SAA.

I SHOOT more ACP. 1911 and a Vaquero. Vaquero and Henry rifle in .45 Colt
Would love a .460, Super Blackhawk or S&W and a lever. S, L, LR capable; 45C, .454Casull, or .460. Mostly likely shooting .45C 95%, .454C 4%, and .460 1%. A true, anything in North America round. A Remlin 1894 would be awesome. Henry could do it, too. |

Admittedly, of these cartridges, I have only fire 45acp, but I really do like it.

If I were a reloader, probably .45 Colt. But since I'm not (yet), it's .45 ACP for all the great guns and loads it's available in.
I'm generally satisfied with my .357 Mag (7.5" Blackhawk Bisley) when I want power and range, so I haven't really gotten into the big bore hand cannons. But some day I plan to get another Bisley in either .45 Colt or .44 Mag.

.45 Colt. It does a lot of things better than the other choices do and does things some of the choices can't do.

I have a .45 Auto, and I may get another one, because I have faith in them.
A Springfield XD would be good. There are so many different guns now, that’s it’s a little frustrating trying to pick one. But this gun keeps popping up in my mind as a good one. ![]() Last edited by Gas Bag; November 17, 2021 at 06:53 PM. |

Gas Bag, I kick myself in the tail selling mine. I still have one in .40SW. That's one of my favorite platforms.
If I were a serious reloader with firearms in all of those choices, I would probably have a different answer. With that, I have to be like most others and say I like the .45ACP best. It's such a versatile cartridge, a lot of fun to shoot, and plenty of recipes to load.

I have .45ACP's semis, (Colt and Browning BDA) several Ruger SA revolvers in .45Colt, (a couple with ACP cylinders as well) and a couple of semi autos that shoot the .45 Win Mag (one gas operated one recoil operated), and I have barrels for my Contender for all those cartridges as well.
Also had a .45acp semi auto Tommy gun, but I passed that on to my son a few years ago...kinda miss it, oh well... ![]() Don't have any of the bigger .45 caliber cases, don't have a use for them which is not the same as saying there is no use for them, ![]() I've had a .45 caliber handgun of my own of some type since 1980, and won't be without one.
