Where are #34's
Is CCI still making #34 military primers? I have seen, on and off, every primer out there including #41's but have not seen any #34's. Has anyone else seen them or are they discontinued?

I haven't heard anything about them being discontinued and I doubt they were but it's a low demand item in a time of ultra high demand, they probably aren't making many/any at the moment.

I would think they would be a high demand item as everyone keeps recommending them for semi autos with free floating firing pins.

What percentage of firearms are semi-auto with free-floating pins and use large primers?

On the other hand, they may be a high-demand item, all being sold as assembled ammo to the military.

What percentage of all primers will be bought for rifles that requires CCI #34 primers? I bet it's a small percentage. If demand for your products that make up (for example) 85% of all your sales exceeds 100% of your capacity, how much of that capacity are you going to dedicates to the other 15% product? Not much. The demand for small rifle, large rifle and their BR varieties is surely much, much higher than demand for #34s. Therefore, they make the former and not the latter.

Really, you think there is a greater demand for BR primers than for semi auto's. Then why can we find the #41's. Right now you can't go by percentage as people are buying whatever is available. And I can bet that most guys who shoot M1's or M1-A's shoot and reload a lot more than bolt action guys.

Then must be they discontinued them. You know, cuz they'd do that with their #1 selling primer.

Well going by that logic I guess IMR4895 , bullseye , R15 and .22lr must also be discontinued.

They are still manufactured. I picked some up from the last production run. It might have been about six months between when I last saw them online and when I recently bought them at a show. I have gone to two subsequent shows and did not find any. 41s were everywhere.

I see the 34's at local gun shows for around $60/1000.
Powder Valley has had the 41's for $38/1000 should one need them. |

Years ago (at least 10) I had to 20,000 C-34's to get my dealer to order them for me. Thank you to him for forcing me to do it. I still have about 6000 of them left to use up in my M1A's because of that.
I have seen them for sale occasionally in the last 6 months. Just keep looking as they are out there.

Despite Garands and M1A's and FN FAL's and the various 7.62×39 floating firing pin military rifle actions, the extreme popularity of the AR platform means the large rifle military sensitivity spec primers are not as much in demand as the small. This is why Federal came out with a match AR primer last year, but did not also introduce a mil-sensitivity spec large rifle primer. And neither is in as much demand as commercial spec primers for bolt rifles, in part because the latter go into commercial ammunition. Assembled ammunition has a larger profit margin than reloading supplies, so it tends to command priority.
The #41 and #34 are actually the same as CCI 450 and 250 primers, respectively, except the primer anvils legs are shorter and splayed at a wider angle to bring their sensitivity in line with military H-test requirements. So #34's can be made on the 250 line with that part change. However, it's likely to be the case, as it is with manufacturers of almost everything you can warehouse and that doesn't go bad quickly, from spark plugs to power transistors, that CCI schedules runs of their lower volume products just once or twice a year. If CCI does #34's that infrequently (in order not to interfere with CCI 250 production), then, given the general hoarding behavior still in effect, it's easy to see how these primers would vanish as soon as they became available (they work as magnum primers in non-military guns, too) and not return until the next run was scheduled.
