Man, thanks for the report, Smitty - I really like that shotgun, and *may* just have to get one - what's the bbl length on it? The 930s of ANY variety have been very scarce in stores - the 935s are available, but not the 930.

The barrel length is 18-1/2".

I have some videos of me emptying the mag tube... 8 shots in less than 2 seconds.. I don't know how to upload the videos, yet..... maybe I'll ask my 11 year old to do it for me

O.K. shot OObuck magnums, OOObuck magnums, Sabot HP's, and a whole host of crappy skeet loads 2 3/4 and 3 inch ... Not one failure to feed - Blasted them out as fast and furious as I could pull the trigger.

One F-ukn' awesome shotgun - all this and the price too...!!!

I'll tell ya' what I've shot a Rem 11-87, 1100 and a 1200 Beretta and this bad boy is just as good or better than all of them and for about $400 less ... Mossberg has hit a homerun with this baby - Anyone on the fence now it's time to jump off...

Glad you like yours!!

My 930 SPX is just plain FUN... I can't remember when I've had this much fun "wasting" ammo. It's great to see some "grumpy old curmudgeon" empty 8 shots in 2 seconds, the smile on their face afterwards is priceless!!

I've been trying to tell people that the 930 is a great package for almost a year, ever since I bought my wood 930.... maybe, because of the price, people dismiss it and say it must be "cheap". It's not cheap, it's inexpensive!!!

There is a book out there by Vic Havlin about Mossberg's history called "More Gun For the Money", I think that the 930 keeps that tradition and is a great gun for not a lot of money ... But sometimes it's like talking to the wall.

Anybody got any more leads on where to get these, supplier wise.I myself just stumbled onto this shotgun last night, begged for clearance from the wife, and got the OK to get one for Christmas... Now I've just got to find it. My FFL guy says he can't find em, but he's an internet dealer, and it is pretty new at that too. Haven't checked my local shop to see what they know yet. Thanks for any help!

Here's a web-site that says they have them in stock for $497.44!!;

http://www.topglock.com/Item.aspx?PID=70891

I've never dealt with them, so I have no idea if they are reputable or not...

OK, I'll bite.

I've been looking pretty hard at the 930's and I have a few questions I couldn't answer on the Mossberg site.

Do these guns have alloy receivers? Hows the weight and balance compared to an 870?

I gather they run well with everything from WalMart field loads to mags, but I'd like some 4-1-1 before I rip out the plastic.

Yes, the recievers are made of alluminum, the same as ALL of Mossberg's receivers, the model 500 receivers have been made of alluminum since '61, I haven't heard of any of them "wearing out"...

The 930 SPX weighs about 7-1/2 lbs (an 870 weighs right around 7 lbs). The 930 balances very well, with 7 rounds in the mag tube it starts to get heavy, but it's very manageable.

I have run everything from 3" magnum turkey loads all the way down to some 2-3/4" 3/4oz hand loads. I have had excellent luck cycling anything and everything I've fed into it.

It's pretty easy to clean, no o-rings to mess with, and very easy on recoil.
If you have any questions just ask... and if you're ever in the northeast let me know, I'll go shooting with you and let you shoot it....

Went to check on one at my local shop today, just to see how much, and when can I get it... Low and behold, they had one on the shelf! This model had a "bead" sight (white dot on elevated post to see over brake), and 18.5" with a breaching brake, 6+1, for $479. Expecting the model you guys have to come in soon... That is when I'll get mine!

Thanks, Smitty. I don't get up CT way much but if you're headed though central MO sometime- let me know.

The aluminim receiver don't scare me so long as the bolt locks into the root of the barrel. I actually kind of prefer it on an auto shotgun. The weight & balance sound just fine, and I'm glad to hear they are running well with practically anything. Mossberg is overdue for a good auto shotgun, and it sounds like they may have finally found it.

The model I'm looking at is the 'security combo' with a hunting barrel and a bead-sighted 18" riot barrel. About the only thing I don't care for is the porting, but if it's good otherwise I can live with it. This model would fit me perfectly, for both work and recreation. I may have to move some stuff first but I forsee one of these in my future.

I just bought a Mossberg "Persuader" 20 gauge pump, 18 inch barrel comes with a stock and pistol grip for my wife - can't wait to bring that up to the range and have fun with that as well. Would love to see a 930 SPX in 20 gauge ...???

Sort of like a senior and junior ...LOL...
