Why don't Ruger SA cylinders line up with the gate at the click?
I've just ordered a Vaquero.
I have owned .22 SAs before, but never a "real" one. While standing around at my dealer, I picked up a nice EAA Bounty Hunter. I noticed that the cylinder holes would line up with the loading gate when you heard the "click". I think I've seen it explained before, but I am curious as to why Rugers don't do that. Is it better for some reason for the holes not to line up? Thanks for being patient with a beginning Cowboy.

No it's not better
The rugers don't line up because they don't have a half cock notch on the hammer.
The old model(3 screw) rugers would line up bucause they had this notch. This is not really a positive or negative it is kind of an inconvienience. If it really bugs you you can fix it in 2 ways: 1 order a Power Custon Free Spin Pawl, this gives you no clicks, the cylinder will spin freely both directions. Some people love this, some hate it, there is no clicking noise when you spin the cylinder. 2,. You can order a new trigger and hammer assembly from several sources, these will give you a half cock, which lines the cylinder up. Midway should have both these items Check out this thread for all the info you'll need http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...+modifications
