Your opinion on purchase of Glock 27 0r 26??

Hey gang! I'm a former LEO now living in a western state. My carry was a Glock 22. I have an opportunity to buy a G26 or G27 tomorrow at a price I can't pass up. My EDC is a 9mm Springfield XDS and a .40 Glock 23. I'm leaning toward the .40 Glock 27. Trading in a Springfield XD 45 ACP (4" compact). Also thinking about a 10mm Glock 29 for backwoods down the road.. But, for now - G27 or G26???

I vote for the G26. I personally don't enjoy shooting my G27gen3 as much as the 9mm G26 models I own.

I used to be issued a G22gen3 (until my agency switched to the G17Gen4) and still personally own a G23gen3. These larger models are more comfortable and controllable when shooting the .40 rounds, compared to the G27. When I say more comfortable, my range sessions are typically measured by multiples of 100 rounds. If I'm shooting the G27 that day, I'll shoot either 100 or 200 rounds, but usually no more. I'll transition to another handgun or two and do the same by shooting in multiples of 100. It's just how I do things and makes it a bit easier to keep a running round count in my records for things like maintenance intervals.

I'm not advocating selling or trading off any existing firearms which are working for you, by the way.

The .40 is a good caliber and you can do more research and thought as to whether you'd rather carry .40 or 9mm.

My default answer for these type of threads is to get both.

L2 - I appreciate your reply here! I run 180 grain Federal HST's in my Glock 23. Felt recoil isn't too bad. 165 grain HST's handle well also. But, it is a bigger gun. I like the fact that I can use my G23 mags in the G27. Still debating here..

I selected the G26 over the G27 and have never regretted the decision. I’m not anti-forty, but just felt the 9mm made a lot more sense for me as an EDC gun.

I would most assuredly go with the G26. I retired a little over 3 years ago and attempted to have the 9mm approved by my department (we were required to carry .40 cal). I never succeeded. The department now has gone to the 9mm in a Glock format and has been pleased with the results.

In your situation the 40 makes sense. Me - I'd buy the 9mm. I'm set up for 9mm and rotate between a couple 9mm's. A G19, FN Hi Power, and a Ruger LC9s.

I also have a S&W Shield in 9mm.

While it's possible to add a 9mm barrel to the 40 G27, the expense isn't worth it to me.

Well, since you have a 23, it's intuitive to have the 27. They're complementary. You already have a Micro 9mm.

I carried a 23/27 combo for a while.

Now if you had no gun, I would say a 19. That's what I carry these days. 19 MOS with an RMR.
It has an Overwatch Precision trigger and a Ghost Connector.

I had a 26 and my brother has a 27, both excellent subcompacts. I would go with the 27 for the reasons CDR Glock mentioned.

This depends entirely on your willingness to commit to the .40 S&W cartridge. Now that you are no longer an LEO, and have to fund your own shooting (ha! as if you didn't before!), and have the choice of platform/caliber outside of your issue weapons, you can choose to invest in whatever you fancy.

If you are already invested in .40 Glocks, have at it. The 22/23/27 is a great series. Personally, I find it easier to maintain stock of 9x19mm target ammunition, for a lower cost-per-round, than .40 S&W. Buying ammunition to train with is significantly cheaper with 9x19mm, so that is what I use when I am on my own time and own dime.

I think that the real crossroads you are at is not if you want a 26/27, but if you want to get a 26 and trade in your 23 for a 19.

But that's me, personally.

Since you have the 22, you can share magazines, especially if you run the 27 as a Back-Up gun which THIS GUY does ;-P

I went with the G26 because I get faster and more accurate followup shots with 9 mm than with .40. The grip on the baby Glocks (do they still call them that after the introduction of the G42 and G43?) is reduced, but very functional. You are familiar enough with .40 to know whether grip and followups will be an issue for you or not. If you feel like you shoot .40 well enough and like it, the magazine interchange ability is a good point. Capacity is a mild argument for 9 mm.

Particularly since you are discussing going with a 10MM later I would go with the 9MM. To me the .40 is a great "jack of all trades, master of none". The 9MM and 10MM on each side of it exceed all of its positives in their unique roles.

I have both and like both. I honestly think the g27 doesn't have much more noticeable recoil than 26, imo, unlike other brands in similar sized frames anyway. With that said, it becomes more of a capacity decision, and you can put 33rdr in 26, also, if ever desired. If it were me, with your situation, I'd do g26 now then plan to add the 10mm when you can.

Go w/the G27. I have 2 G27s & 1 G26. The G27s were shot a lot the G26 hardly any. Don't care much for 9mm.

If you want to get a mild shooting 40SW get a G29 10mm & shoot 40 in it (no barrel change necessary). And a great gun to carry w/full power 10mm loads.

Buy the 27 and a 9mm barrel for it. Then you get both. Heck go all out and get a glock 33 barrel in .357 sig. I did the 9mm conversion barrel once upon a time too. I have since gone to the 19 because it is every bit as easy to carry as the 26/27 for my body shape.

But the 27 with 9mm and .357 sig barrels was a fun time at the range.

I vote for the G27!

I was totally an anti Glockster. However, I was looking for a pocket carry 40 S&W that I could also use with a 357 Sig barrel in it. I am a fan of 40S&W and 357 Sig. I have two FNH 40s that I alternately use 357 sig in them.

The Glock 27 kept coming up in my searches.

My local gun shop just happened to have a Gen 3 at a very good price so I said "What the Heck". I purchased it and have since become a fan of that particular Glock.

I carry it with the 357 Sig barrel. It is a very good shooting pistol.

My carry most of the time is a G27. Pickup 2 conversion barrels for it for less than $300 and a couple of 9mm mags and you have 3 calibers for less than $1K. It provides more options.

If you ever REALLY want to carry a 9mm for SD, get a 9mm extractor, & swap out the trigger housing (ejector). Glocks are the 10/22's in pistol form.

Oh, BTW, I got the G26 too. It sits in the safe.

Seems like this already answers the question; if a former LEO tells us that he's leaning towards the G-27 that's certainly a valid way to go when there is a deal that can't be passed up!

Get the G26 and never look back.
Range practice ammo is way less expensive, the recoil is less severe, and out of that short barrel premium ammunition will perform nearly the same 40S&W versus 9mm Parabellum.

Before I go G27, I'd get a G33. Otherwise a G26.

I am voting 26.

The recoil on a 27 is just too snappy, makes it hard to get follow-up shot on target quickly.

Can you get to a range to rent both? I can shoot box after box of 9mm out of a 26 and do just fine. Usually somewhere into third mag of a 27 I develop a flinch that requires a lot of effort to overcome.

27. My 23 is my favorite and I already have a LoneWolf barrel to shoot 9mm with it. .40cal is comfortable for me.

I like the idea of interchangeable magazines, so given that you already EDC a G23, I'd go with the G27.

Which did you end up buying?

If you are still deciding, I'm not sure I can be of much help. If I was to buy a Glock 26 or 27 it would be hard to decide between the slightly higher power of the .40S&W or the slightly higher capacity (1 round) of the 9mm. I might lean towards the G26 only because, if it isn't a .45, and it is a double stack mag, I want at least 10 rounds in the mag, but unlike some 9mm v. .40 with a larger difference, there is only one more round in the G26 v. the G27. If I get a Glock in the next size up, it will definitely be the 23 over the 19 (as apparently you did as well). For me, having neither of the larger Glocks, I really don't know which I'd get. For you, since you already have the 23, maybe the 27 would make more sense. You already have higher capacity G23 mags you can have as reloads or loaded in the gun with a sleeve/mag adapter so I'd probably go G27 in your case.
