10 Gun Challenge

Every fall, I spend a considerable amount of time sitting in trees and trying to distract myself so I can ignore how cold I am. Recently, I posed myself the following question:

If I could only own 10 guns to cover every single firearm-related need that I have, or could foresee having, what would they be?

This was my list, in the following format.

Use - Gun - Caliber

1 - Plinking/Small Game - Ruger 10/22 - 22LR
2 - Big Game Hunting - Winchester Model 70 Stainless - 308 Win
3 - Big Game Hunting (Muzzleloader Season) - CVA Accura - 50 Cal
4 - Dangerous Game Hunting - CZ 550 - 375 H&H
5 - Misc Uses - Remington 870 - 12 Gauge
6 - Woods Carry - Smith & Wesson Model 65 - 357 Mag
7 - Concealed Carry - Sig Sauer P365 - 9mm
8 - Primary Rifle - AR - 223 Rem
(I don't actually have one of these, since I live in NY and am no allowed to. But for 90% of gun owners, this is a clear choice. If I lived elsewhere, this is what I'd do.)
9 - Primary Pistol - CZ P-01 - 9mm
10 - Recreational Shooting - Ruger 22/45 - 22LR

So, I pose you the same question. Pick 10 guns and tell us:

Primary Use
Gun Choice
Caliber

Should provide some interesting distraction for those long, cold hunts...

I have no need for 10.

- "match" XD 9mm for USPSA
- "match" 10/22 for 100yd iron-sight 3-position
- "match" Ruger American in .308, for high-power silhouette (6mm minimum)
- G43 for EDC
- G26, my former EDC, but handy to throw in the glovebox
- 1911, for fun (doesn't everyone?)
- AR, for fun (doesn't everyone?)

The only addition would be a more refined .22 for the 100-yd matches, but we won't go there until it's obvious our skills have exceeded the capability of the 10/22 we're currently using.

OK, I'll play:
1 - Plinking/Small Game - Ruger 77/22 or Remington 541T or 10/22
2 - Big Game Hunting - Mauser 98 7X57 (got several)
3 - Big Game Hunting - Mauser 98 444 Marlin
4 - Dangerous Game Hunting - Winchester Model 70 375 H&H
5 - Misc Uses - Browning Auto-5 - 12 Gauge
6 - Woods Carry - Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag
7 - Concealed Carry - Colt Combat Commander or Para P12 45ACP
8 - Primary Rifle - AR - 223 Rem
9 - Primary Pistol - Colt Government 45 ACP
10 - Recreational Shooting - Ruger Mark II Government - 22LR

And since I already own these, there's no need to suppose.

Since I don't have all of my guns insured, I do ponder this here and there as well. My list is actually 12 that I would go out and replace, instead of 10, if they all went bye-bye. I'd add a 10mm 1911 and a precision .22LR to get to my 12

1. 6.5CM Bergara Wilderness Terrain. Pronghorn, Deer, Hogs and precision matches.
2. .338-06 Ultralight, Weatherby, for Elk and Moose.
3. .223 Bergara Approach. Practice, plinking, Coyotes, Prairie Dogs.
4. .223 16" AR15. mostly matches.
5. Browning Golden Clays 12g, upland birds and clay sports
6. Benelli M2 3Gun and waterfowl
7. Kahr PM9, EDC 9mm
8. CZP09 9mm. Matches mostly, some HD
9. S&W .41 Mag for hunting mostly
10. PCC in 9mm for plinking and matches.

I am unclear what you mean by "primary rifle".

I can think of a lot of rifles I might pick for a primary rifle, and there isn't a .223 among them. Possibly because we have different ideas about what a primary rifle is, or should be.

44, a fair question.

By that I meant, primary “weapon” for home defense, etc.

thanks for the clarification.

My primary use for rifles is not "home defense".

I could pick 10 firearms from those I already own, but I see no point to that, since I have more than that, and each one is pretty good at what I use it for.
