What was the point of killing it?

I'm all for self defence and hunting FOR FOOD, but hunting for sport has always eluded me; isn't it just murder then?

I'd love to join him on that one!

Also would like to add that anytime you kill an animal, be it for food or sport, the animal DIES. In this case, the hog is going to be processed so, it was for food.

Might make for a heck of a story if it were true... I, for one, just don't buy it. They might have had me hooked if not for those pictures

Yeah....those camera angles look a little suspect. Like the people were sitting quite a few yards behind the beast.

I could do the same thing with my border collie and make it look like she goes 400 lbs.

So an 11 year old boy was chasing and shooting at this hog for 3 hours, over a mile distance, and landing 16 out of (??) shots from a .500 S&W revolver, before it keeled over?

How many of you trust your 11 year old kid with a .22, let alone handgun, let alone a .500 s&w?

That's just the first of several issues I have with this tall tale.

Well, depends. First, some definitions: If I am hunting and I actually eat the meat that I kill, but ALSO enjoy it as a sport, then am I

-"hunting for food", or
-"hunting for sport", or
-both

the way you define things?

Lets replace any reference of hunting to a referrence of an assault weapon.

"i'm all for self defense and shooting but the private ownership of assault weapons has always eluded me; isn't it just for murders then?

This is why the gun owning populace of america has to worry about losing its RKBA. It doesn't matter if you hunt, shoot skeet, collect milsurps, run IPDA, or own NFA firearms. If we let the anti gun crowd divide us then history shows we will be conquered.

Oh and on a totally off topic issue that has bothered me for a while; if you call a hunter a Fudd does that mean hunters can call you black rifle toting looney tunes? I own black rifles and I totally support the idea of the general populace being allowed to have NFA weapons with no registration so don't go calling me Jim F**king Zumbo

Looks like the angles were used to exaggerate a good bit to me.

I thought the .500 S&W was supposed to be good for anything up to and including small armored personnel carriers!?!? 16 shots??? Is that how many he shot or how many it took to kill it? It doesn't sound all that impressive to me if it took that many rounds to put it down! I've shot a few big hogs with a 44 Mag and my 7X57. Never a 1,000 pounder, but I never had one run a mile before dropping, either. I sure wouldn't go on the Internet bragging that I couldn't shoot well enough to kill a pig with a cannon!

Maybe hogs are getting tougher, just like those Kevlar deer I keep reading about.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but sometimes I hold my fish out toward the camera. It's a good thing I have T-Rex arms, 'cause they really are monster fish.

actually this could be real, the proportion of the pig to the things around the pig on the ground look about right....I would like it to be real. Course if you told my you found a nest of dragons, I would be the first to grab the 10 gauge.

So whats hard to believe about a monster pig? Few & far between, granted, but I believe they're out there.

Sounding off. My kids are grown now but I trusted them at age 11 and hunted with them. I trust them more than most adults. It all depends on how they're raised. Generally speaking you are correct in your implication, but safe kids are out there. Possibly as few & far between as monster pigs, but real nonetheless.

You cannot murder an animal that is not human. Murder is by definition the malicious killing of one human by another. I had this same discussion with Cheygriz a while back. He conceaded he was wrong but still says he "murders" animals just because it sounds cool.

Anyway kingofattendance, I hope for your sake that you have never killed a mouse in a mouse trap without eating it. If you have, I'm afraid I'll have to call you a murderer. I hope you've never killed a mosquito that was biting you. If so, by your defenition, you are a murderer. Get it yet?

Wild hogs ruin crops, groundhogs and prarie dogs ruin fields, crows ruin crops, coyotes wreak havoc to the population of indigenous animals and so on.

I wouldn't eat a rat, but I'll kill everyone I can.

Anyway, the picture looks very fake, the story sounds very made up, but stranger things have happened I suppose.

Kingofattendance, im not too sure what the circumstances were mate, neither do you. A pig that size who be capable of rooting up a fair bit of hard won farming ground, or quite a few expensive sheep too...
As for hunting for sport, many people hunt, not because they need the meat which they end up using regardless, but because they enjoy THE SPORT.

Well said mrawesome22

They are saying wild hogs will be in 46 of the 50 states by 2020.
They have no natural enemies to stop them.

I was shocked the first time I got to see how bad just 3 hogs can dig up a field looking for food.
