aluminum shell followers
Are the aluminum shell followers really that much better than the cheap plastic ones?
Is it worth $20.00 Will it be more reliable?

I would swap out a plastic for metal follower immediately.
Just too risky to count on something that could last forever or break today... I also noted that Junior has the red/orange plastic one. Unlike my black one, I initially thought... "LOADED TUBE" on first sight as I am used to black is empty on mine and 12 gauge shells are usually red. In mine, I look for black or brass. Brent |

Metal followers are well worth the money. They don't take away space in the tube like the solid end plastic followers.
I am big fan of the Vang stainless follower. GC |

Kuhnhausen mentions that in high mileage trap 870s and 1100s the metal followers contribute to peening of the receiver at the end of the mag tube.
In most cases, I doubt it makes any difference. The 870s here have either plastic followers or steel, depending on vintage. No problems to report. |
