Calling Hornaday LNL users,
For those of you who have the LNL progressive and the Classic single stage; Will the die bushings interchange from the progressive to the Classic without having to adjust the dies? In other words do the shell plates meet the dies at the same height so I could instantly switch one pre-adjusted bushing/die combo to the other?
I currently have an LNL AP and need to add a single stage press.

My advice to you is to buy a Lee Classic Cast single stage. It, like the Hornady, will accept the LnL bushings, but is a much better made press with better features than the Hornady. It's also made with cast iron and steel and not aluminum like the Hornady is. In either case, you will have to shim either single stage a little bit to get interchange perfect.
That said, I've found I haven't done the switch back and forth to any extent and by the time you mess with the shimming, you can pick up a used set of dies in the caliber you want cheap and go with those. I find the tasks I use the single stage for typically do not involve the same calibers and dies. The single stage gets used for heavy duty stuff and oddball tasks. I hope this information helps. No, the dies aren't swappable without adjustment (would be nice, though)... for rifle calibers that I reload on the LnL (for SHTF ammo, etc.) and the Classic single stage ("match" ammo), I have separate die sets ...

I have the LnL AP and my single stage press is an old Rock Chucker. After a whole lot of measuring, it turned out that a single 1/8 inch thick fender washer purchased from Lowe's was nearly perfect to shim my RC. Of course, I did have to purchase a hole saw drill bit that cost $10, but you may already have a way to drill a 1-1/4" hole in the fender washer.
It helped to use some 320 grit lapping compound on a hardened flat plate. You can see in this picture how the washer was not perfectly flat, but the lapping took off the high portion. It would have been nice to find a washer with a smaller diameter, but overall I'm happy with the results. Cheers, BuffDriver |

Outstanding Buff!
I can trade cheaply for an old RCBS single stage. I assume it's a Rock Chucker, but don't know for sure.
So if I'm getting you right, you just thread in H'days 1 1/4-12 LNL bushing Conversion Kit? Then shim it up 1/8". Tks for all replies, had no hits w/ the same thread on THR It will be nice to easily swap dies for working up loads.

Damn, I just looked at it and it's a RCBS JR3 press not a Rockchucker. Not sure how the LNL bushings screw into the Rkchkr, but they sure won't screw into this thing. Back to the drawing board.

20nickels, if you want to purchase an affordable press that can accept the lock-n-load conversion kit, the Lee Classic Cast press has a great reputation, and it's on sale at Midway right now. If I were picking a single stage press today, it's the one I would get.

Okay I see how the bushing sleeve inserts now, simple. Now my only concern (besides the interest of my thread ) is that the R-Chucker Supreme and Classic Cast are taller presses to accomadate today's magnum rifles. Is it still possible to shim them up or do I need to find an older (shorter?) Rockchucker. Local shop has a Lee, I'll measure it.
