Scope Suggestions?
Looking to get some scopes for several 22 LR rifles I have.
Marlin 39A Marlin 60 and 60SS Savage mk-f Possibly for the XT-22 and Speedmaster if I don't sell those. I currently have a standard Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 and really like it. I'm leaning towards several 4x32's and maybe one or two 3-9x40s. Before anyone suggests a $500 scope or higher, please don't post a response as it's not in my budget. Not for a 22 at least. I'd like to scope these for around $500 if possible. I have rings for them all already. I usually do some "long range" shooting with the Savage but the others have been kept to less than 150 yards max a 4x would be fine for those. I'm on the cell killing time at work but wanted to know what everyone uses on their rimfires. |

Tasco 3x7x20 TV Reticle works perfectly for $20. I also use a Bushnell 3x9x40 for my .22 rifles.

I had a $35 10/22 with a $39 Simmons 22 mag scope in the 1990s and I loved it.
Then I lost that rifle. I bought a couple of $250 10/22s, $250 scopes, and aftermarket parts, but I still liked the old rifle that I had lost better. You are very likely to get away with buying a cheap scopes if: 1) 22 recoil 2) don't change adjustments once it is sighted in 3) don't drop it 4) Don't take it in the rain The rifle I once had was really accurate and reliable and ugly.

the mueller apv is a nice scope to be had for around 100$, also the simmons 22mag is a good rimfire scope, i bought one from sportsmansguide last month for about 60$. The leapers (aka utg) are good as well, you can get 5th gen ao scopes for less than 100.

I had fixed 4 powers (Weaver K4's) on my 39A and 9422 for a long time and they were all I ever needed. But, when I came into possession of a couple of Leupold 2-7 scopes, I put them on the 22's. They work fine, but the parallax is set up for centerfire rifles. If I was going to go out and buy a couple of new scopes, I would probably get some of today's variables that were specifically for 22 LR use, and I'd be sure to get the bullet drop compensation lines or dots. That would be nice to have, considering the not-so-flat trajectory of the 22 LR.

Hi guys, thanks for the suggestions so far. Plan to do a little research tonight after work and let you know what I come up with.
I did go ahead and order a refurb fixed 4x Nikon Prostaff Rimfire that Natchez had on sale for around $60ish. Wanted to order several but they only had one in stock. Think I'm going to put this one on the Marlin 39A. I shoot the Savage more but would like to get a higher power for that rifle. If one was picking between the Mueller 4.5-14x40AO APV, the SI 3.5-10x44 or the Vortex Crossfire 4-14x40AO which would you choose and why? They all seem to be close in price. Thanks! |

I second the Meuller scopes. Good build quality and priced right. The APV goes out to 14x I believe.

Pride Fowler Scopes
Hi Kevin,
Have you given any thought to a Pride Fowler Scope? I got one on this site recently ( http://www.camp-hunt-shoot.com ) and it's pretty awesome, being tailor made for our rifle. I think there's even a review of the scope on that site somewhere as well. Hope that helps. Dado |
