is it Pre-pban or isn't it?

So I am living in NY right now and Am looking at some used ar-15’s and AK-47’s. My question is. How does one be sure that a rifle is “Pre-ban” or not? Does this go by Date of Manufacture?

A pre ban weapon means before the AWB was passed. So any rifle before then is legal, if understood correctly.

Date of manufacture before the ban should be easily determined by communicating with the manufacturer on which serial numbers qualify.

Sooo, the only tested process of establishing if a weapon is pr-ban is by calling the manufacturer/importer? there are weapons that came here prior to century arms and other such companies taking over? Norinco only has a number in China. Not sure if anybody there speaks the lingo.

Some are easy:

Some you will have to do some legwork:

This one is very well done and likely your best bet.

I am having a hard time understanding the issue here. There is no longer a federal awb, so why does it matter?

Some states passed their own bans. Some of them mirrored the federal ban, some are stricter.

NY state is one such state with their own state level ban, hence the question.
