Would one of you fine people mind helping me with a D.O.B.?
I have a Smith & Wesson 38.special with a blued 4" barrel with serial number 951XX.
The bottom of the grip and the bottom of the barrel are stamped C 3686
The serial number is the one on the bottom of the frames grip butt. What is that number?

Ciao everybody.

I've been asked by a friend here in Italy to find out if it is possible to date the following gun:

Smith & Wesson
Mod: 44 double action first model
Cal: 44 s&w Russian
S/N: 5992

I would be grateful for a reply.

David.

Serial numbers ran from 1 in 1881 to 54668 in 1913.

can you please tell me the date/model of my friend's s&w .32 revolver?

barrel looks about 3" long and on the right side of the barrel it says 32 S&W LONG (left side shows SMITH & WESSON). holds six bullets. serial # on the bottom of the grip is 673XXX. the grip base is rounded. it looks like a model 31, nickel or stainless.

thanks in advance

Model 36 S/N 1457XX = SN's ran from 125000 at the end of 1957 to 295000 at the start of 1962.
Model 19 S/N ADR11XX = 1983.

.32 Hand Ejector (pre model 30). SN's ran from 536685 in 1946 to 712953 in 1960. Finish would be blue or nickel.

I just got a gun I thought I would never even be able to touch: a model 27-2. It's pinned and recessed, comes with all the original paperwork, and it's in 99% condition. I'll be starting a separate thread later.

A little help would be appreciated:

38 Special

Would anyone know the date manufacturing of the following serial number:
J886XXX

Approximate value range if I decided to sell it?

I appreciate the help very much. My grandpa would like to sell it eventually.

S/N help please

I've got a couple of older S&W's that need birthdays:

M37 Airweight 3" 325xxx

M19 2.5" 6K50xxx

I'll be leaving hints for the wife about this book.

1981. $350 give or take depending on condition.

Quote:
M37 Airweight 3" 325xxx

M19 2.5" 6K50xxx
M37 Airweight 3" 325xxx = ~1964
M19 2.5" 6K50xxx = 1974

S&W pre-27 .357 w/ diamond target grips

I picked up a nice pre-27 S&W with a S 96xxx Serial no. this past weekend. The gun had a set of the diamond target "coke" grips on it that were not numbered but had obviously been on the gun for a long time.

Can you help me with date of manufacture- I'm guesssing '54 or '55 - and if the target grips could possibly be orginal to the gun or did they have to be a later addition?

THANKS!

1953. Target grips usually were not numbered. However, 1953 is too early for "cokes". They started around 1956 with the 44 Magnum.
Correct grips in 1953 would be diamond magnas or Non relieved diamond targets, but I wouldn't complain about having "cokes".
