bwegner: CEM prefix would put your 686 in the late 2000 - early 2001 range.

38 Special 6 shot serial D82XXXX can anyone tell me the Model, Year of Manufacture, and Value of this revolver? it appears to have about a 3 inch barrel and a hammer mounted firing pin so i am reasonably sure that its pretty old.
TIA |

If you could find out the caliber, that would help a great deal. Also, barrel length and whether the gun has a safety device built onto the back of the grip area would help. Best of all would be a photo, ideally of both sides of the gun. Without at least some of that it's not possible to go any further. |

Mother-In-Law just gave me her late father's S&W .357 Mag Mod. 27 (no dash, but the 27 is stamped over 29 -- actually just the '7' over the '9'). SN=1872xx. Is this enough info to determine date of manufacture?
Thanks for providing this service. Last edited by Deluxe64; March 22, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Reason: Wrong number ... |

S1872XX = 1958. Since the model 27 and 29 share the same frames the number overstamp, while not common, does happen. Jim |

I have my dads 2" S&W 38 Special Model 10-5 with serial number D688889. It is a six shooter and is blued with wood grips and also has a set of rubber grips with it. Looks brand new with no wear what so ever. Would appreciate info on when it was manufactured and what the value might be. Live in Alabama if that makes a difference. Thanks

Hello, all,
I just got a 31-1. .32 long, pinned but not recessed, and I am not at home to look it up, any chance one of you wizards has the book handy and can tell me the age, the woman who is giving it to me was wondering when her hubby got it.... Square butt fixed sights, serial 7751XX, she had not idea her husband even had it, I am guessing late sixties but would really like to tell her how old. |

Its an in between latch, not the same as my Chiefs from that era, but not flat either, and it has diamonds, so we will call it a 67 or so gun, the age fits the probable the late owner had a business in DT Philly, and the environment was drastically changing then too.
I will tell her in the morning when I leave to go home. Thanks very much. |

I have a Model 64-1 that I believe was a turn in gun from the VA or NC State Police. It appears to be polished stainless w/Pachmayr grip and serial number 1D33XX. Any info regarding date of manufacture, possible value or anything else of interest would be greatly appreciated. It is in excellent condition. Thanks.

Just wanted to date it. Serial is 3102xx Blued, walnut grips, square butt. Thanks! |
