Are you sure that its a 16? The MAG prefix means it will take a 3" shell. In this country they don't make 3" 16ga shells. I am thinking its a 12.

Your serial numbers according to the chart I have show it was made in 1986.

Hope this helps

Go to www.ithacaowners.com or www.ithacagun.com in either site the serial number listing can be found. The serial you have given shows up as a 1986 gun.

I see this is an old thread, but I hope someone is still around to read my serial number question.
I just bought an Ithaca Model 37 today. Deceased collector. Seems never fired. In original box with original brochure, etc. Choke tubes.
The box reads:
"ITHACA GUN 54374 80667 8
SUNDURST PAD. RING TAIL FOREND
16GA 26' VENT RIB BBL W/3CT 3" CH
NC667 M371600112"

The spelling is as it appears on the box. I assume SUNDURST may mean sunburst?
Likewise, 26' I suppose to mean 26"

So, Does the serial number begin with M37 or with 16 or with 00?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Don't see how to attach a photo

It would be best if you started a new thread. What is the serial number on the gun?

Ithaca 16 gauge New Classic Model 37

Thanks Hawg,
I have done a ton of reading in the last 24 hours and gotten help from a lot of people in various places.
The serial number on the receiver is M371600112.
According to Ithaca, it is 1976 vintage.
However, after learning the history of the company, with it's buying and selling, I have come to the conclusion that it is 1996/97.
We all know (even I know now) that the Model 37 was renamed Model 87 in 1987, after the company was sold. It was later renamed Model 37 (New Classic) around 1996-ish.
One guy found my twin up on auction that is 124 guns later than mine - 96/97.
It looks too perfect to be a 76. 97 sits better in my gut. But it is a beauty, and flawless. One owner, never shot.
Oh, and the face it has 3 choke tubes precludes it from 1976 (I think).
I would love the hear your opinion on this.
