Persistence pays off in USFA single action search.

Since the ending of production of the extraordinary USFA single actions I have wanted to find one or two before the prices escalated beyond my means. I have persisted in looking and found what I would now consider a jewel of a find. Here is my latest procurement. A USFA Storekeeper model with the Rodeo II finish, turned but unfired, as NIB. I laid out $630 plus shipping. With current prices that is truly a bargain find!

Can't quit looking until I find that Bisley model and a 44-40.

Gorgeous. Still can't believe they abandoned this to make crappy plastic .22's.

Years ago, for my 45th birthday I treated myself to a factory ordered USFA single action, 7 1/2 inch barrel, 45 Colt, blue with color case hardening. It's still one of my favorites just to look at.

Congratulations! Sad to hear about USFA. I had always hoped that one day I would get a 5 1/2 model in the standard blue/case-hardened configuration. Just goes to show, you better buy it now or when you finally get around to it, it'll be discontinued.

A blue/case hardened USFA .45 Colt is on my want list, 4 3/4" barrel.

Anybody know why they gave up the single actions? Great pistols, and I thought they had a good following. Even if they had to scale back their production, there always seems to be a market for a quality single action.
The storekeeper above is just a nice example...

Stony. I do not know why they ended production on SAA and kept the plastic staple gun but if you treat me to a hog hunt I will give you a 44-40 in the box! Free lodging for my dog must be included :-)

Ibmikey.....Your dog is always welcome and if she brings you too, we'll make accommodations. You will have to be willing to eat some smoked hog legs and some good southern food though. Love those USFA's....

As to why they dropped the single actions, I believe it's because the company is privately owned so the company just does whatever the current owner wants it to do, but don't quote me on that.

That's a great little sixgun, you got a good price and not a moment too soon! I've been watching them on Gunbroker and prices have skyrocketed.

USFA is a different kind of critter. The company was run like a little kid's candy store by its founder and president Doug Donnelly. They sold every gun they ever made and had a considerable backlog but in my opinion, they weren't charging enough. He set out to make a better Colt than Colt ever could and absolutely succeeded. I just don't think you make any profit when you make one of the finest SAA's ever produced and sell it for $750. The Pre-War model was a steal at $1200.

Thanks for the compliments. I found it's big brother. A USFA Rodeo II, 45 Colt, 5 1/2", NIB. It was a bit more but still a bargain at current prices. I will have it in either this Saturday or early next week. Will try to post a photo or two when it arrives. Best single actions I have ever handled. It is really disappointing when terrific USA quality ceases to be produced.
