Smith and Wesson serial number search

The serial number on the base of the frame is 6K137xx.
The serial number on the base of the frame is R1058xx

6K137xx = 1974.
R1058xx = SN's ran from R100000 in 1974 to R190000 in 1977 so must likely 1974 also.
The other numbers you see are assembly and inspector numbers. There have been time periods when S&W also stamped the SN on the frame in the yoke area but (with very few exceptions) the base of the grip is the one consistent location.

See four post above yours for location of serial number. If your gun was made after 1957 the pics above also show the location of the model number, it will start with M or MOD.

This is a old M&P 1st edition...pre 1900 model

I bought a S&W revolver that in all respects looks like a model 10, 5 inch bbl; however in the yoke there is no model number like my other 10. Instead there is a stylized number 1 with a smaller number 1 in a circle slightly above and to the left. In the bottom part of the yoke is the number 4. Shoots well, is in great shape, just curious as to what "model" it may be. The serial # on the butt is C 428xxx. Any ideas?

Your right. It's a .38 M&P 1st Model. Pictures help a lot. Serial number dates it to 1st year of production. SN's ran from 1 in 1899 to 20975 in 1902.

The serial # on the butt is C 428xxx.

It's a 38 Military & Police. They became the model 10 when S&W began stamping model numbers ~ 1957.
Yours dates to 1949.

Sorry DWG1861, I typo'd the date. It's 1959. SN's ran from C402924 in 1957 to C429740 in 1959.

I recently scored a beauty: Model 57 no dash 4" in nickel, fired very little. Serial number is N878xxx. Recessed cylinder but the barrel isn't pinned, so I'd guess early 80's before the recessed cylinder was phased out.

I just got a 629-3; 8 3/8"; Classic with full lug barrel, pre-lock. It is in excellent shape can someone look up for me the production time frame. The number inside the crane is BKA5xxx.

I am in the UK, and have been left an S W Revolver by my brother. It is old, I think from WW2. I was told a Navy Model as it has a Lanyard on it. It is .32.
Model Number is, I think, 780450 and on the frame, 27597.
Yes, I know, I should invest in a S&W Book, but due to firearms restrictions here, I cannot see me owning another one!

Anyone care to help please?

See pic for location of serial number. If it's a pre 1957 then there will be no model number on it. An older gun may also have the serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel and the back of the cylinder. One or both of the numbers you gave are assembly numbers. In addition, I need to know the exact wording of the caliber stamped on the side of the barrel. And, of course, a picture always helps.

Hello All,
Need some info and advice on 2 k frames I got from my grandfather.
1. .38 spl K364270, pinned, not recessed maybe 97-98%
2. .22 K28293, pinned, recessed, maybe 95-96%
I think he bought them in the 50's or 60's. What year are they and is either one worth the $50 to get a letter of authentication from S&W? I don't plan on selling them but I do plan on dieing sometime and would like to leave my wife some info if they are worth anything special.
.38 has wide/serrated hammer and wide grooved trigger unknown grips
.22 has narrow trigger & hammer, Herret grips both have 6" bbl. & I have original grips.

Butt stamp under grip is K 2908XX
Crane area has two numbers "N" over 80841 and another 80841 with other various scribes & production markings.

Six Shot 6' Blued revolver with typical large S&W factory wood grips.

Would be very grateful if someone could help me out with identifying model & DOB.

Unable to provide photo at this time but will get help with photo if needed.

K364270 = 1959. It would be a model 14.
K28293 = 1948. It would be a K-22.
The letter would tell you when shipped and to whom it was shipped. Value on these continue to rise but I would guess $700 to $900 range.
Recessed chambers were only on 22's and magnums.

Butt stamp under grip is K 2908XX

K2908xx = 1957. It would be a K-22. Later that year when S&W started assigning model numbers it would become the model 17.

Thanks Jim. I would have figured 1922-1924, but a Veteran over in the S&W forum stated that he believed it was 1921. I will stick with: early 20's.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. the .38 has Mod-14 under the chamber and the set of original grips for the .22 have the serial number stamped on them. My grandfather was an -06 shooter (Army Guard) in the '27-'28 camp perry matches, and made enough on"side bets" (illegal) to buy an engagement ring for my Grandmother that he couldn't afford when they were married several years before. new to me Model 10-10, interested in some history if you have it.

Serial Number on bottom of frame: BFE53XX

Number on Left side of frame under the grip, just above the serial number: 95249
Near this number are a stamped R in a circle, and a stamped C in a triangle. Above the stamped R there is a stamped number 224

On the right side of the frame under the grip, just above the serial number, is another stamped number, but this is a different font than the other two numbers I provided. It's just a bunch of dots, forming what appears to be: 3566 683

Any insight into the history of this gun?

A book could be written on the history of the model 10 as it's been in continuous production since 1899.
It started out as the .38 Military & Police and became the model 10 when S&W started assigning model numbers in 1957.
