Del-ton sport mod 2
Is the del-ton DT sport mod 2 a pretty decent ar for a first time owner? My dealer has one for like $460 and was thinking about picking it up as it’s in my price range. Just a range toy no home defense or anything. Maybe 2,000 rounds a year of 5.56 55 grain brass ammo. This would be my very first experience with an AR. Here’s a link and the specs. Actually that 2,000 round count would be the absolute highest. Really it’ll prolly be more in the 800-1200 rounds per year but potentially 2000 at the absolute most.

All seems pretty standard. Some folks prefer a mid length gas system, but at your volume of use it will be fine; just the action operates a little harsher with the carbine gas system.

I have two Delton rifles but from before the sport model was available. One is a complete Echo 316 the other was a rifle kit from midway . Both have been great rifles but that does not help much since they’re not the sport model .
I like deton and for under $500 and the specs you gave . You should be gtg but agian I never handled there sport model .

A DelTon 16" Hbar carbine has been my "winter EDC AR" for 8 years. It lives outside during the cold weather months w/o much attention other than a bore snake now and then. It's life isn't easy but the finish is still decent and it's deadnutz accurate and dependable.
If given the choice, I'd pick a mid-length but in cold weather with the sort of environment I work with, the carbine gas may ensure functionality. |

Great, thanks everyone was hoping it would be good to go for my intended purposes since it’s priced where I’m comfortable. Figure if I get really into an AR and learn the platform and what not I can spend more money or build my own later on some day.
