Help Me Determine The Date Of Grandpa's 1912 Winchester 12 Gauge

My father has entrusted me with my grandfather's old Winchester Model 1912 and I'd like to determine it's year of manufacture.

It is a 12 gauge with a full choke barrel. The serial number is 7188X.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Will

Will, my information shows your grandfather's Winchester Model 12 was made in 1914. Hope this helps!

Yes, the Blue Book Of Gun Values, by S.P. Fjestad. It is currently in it's 26th edition.

Steve,

Thank again for the info.

I found an article from The American Rifleman that states that the Model 1912 was introduced in twenty gauge only. The article goes on to state that it was two years later, in 1914, when Winchester began to produce the 12 and 16 gauge versions. That means that my Grandpa's gun was produced the first year that the 12 gauge was available.I think that's pretty cool.

Will.
