This is almost as bad as asking about oil on a car forum.

any gun oil or Mobile1 will do , just make sure to clean and lube often, or after every use.

Moble 1... For the shooter who thinks cancer is the new hot ticket accesory.
Seriously, stuff is horrible for you, the additives soak through your skin. Besides, a 16oz bottle of EWL will last you a long time. If you shoot a lot and clean a lot... And I mean A LOT... serious competition or something. Maybe once a year you buy a bottle. I have had mine for going on three years. It's 3/4th gone... |

In a pinch, there are many products that could be substituted.

You probably come into contact daily with substances that are more toxic than Mobil 1 oil. Here is the material safety data sheet for Mobil 1:
http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdf...210757&cj=true Here are a few excerpts: "OSHA HAZARD COMMUNICATION STANDARD: This material is not considered hazardous in accordance with OSHA HazCom 2012, 29 CFR 1910.1200." "Not expected to cause cancer. Based on assessment of the components." " No skin protection is ordinarily required under normal conditions of use. " Used motor oils are potentially toxic and may contain carcinogens, however. |

I have sold oils of all kinds, been in the auto/heavy parts business for 20+ years. New oil isn't a carcinogen, if it was OSHA would be all over it. It's the used oil out of a combustion engine that it. It picked up all kind of nasties from the burning of fuels. So unused motor oils are ok, smelly sometimes and stain but ok. Oils are like women, find one you like and works for you and stick with it. Mainly for my gas guns I use Mobil red grease where needed and Mobil One oil where oil is used. I recently picked up a gallon of LSA for $25, if my math is right that's about 2 dimes an ounce. No way would I spend $10 for an ounce of gun oil. I have made some pretty decent home mixes off the net, this site has a lot of good ideas http://www.frfrogspad.com/homemade.htm

Hmm maybe they made changes to the oil. At one point long term exposure was not a good thing, or maybe it was the ATF.
Or I was mislead. Either way, carry on, use what you want. If it works, it works. |

I have been VERY impressed with ALG Go Juice... it stays put, and doesn't burn off.
https://algdefense.com/alg-go-juice-lubricant-4-oz.html As for the Hoppes... well, IMHO... it was designed when bolt action hunting rifles were more commonly used... MSR's have taken the place of those.. So it might be fine... but I think there are better, more suitable products out there for MSR's Last edited by bfoosh006; May 23, 2018 at 09:09 AM. |
