Probably has to deal with the company or who's building these items.
Who are you thinking of buying a fake from and besides muzzle flash why? |

I saw them advertised somewhere. I am not interested in buying one. I would think they would not be legal if they hid muzzle flash completely. I wonder if they direct the sound forward of the shooter? That would be nice. I don't know how it could have no affect at all. Just one of the many useless things that ran through my mind this afternoon.

Well find one online and contact the company. They should know the answers.
Besides that just make sure you stick the barrel out the window of the deer blind. |

There is nothing illegal about hiding muzzle flash!
Something like this will have the same effect as a longer barrel- it moves the sound further away from you. |

I don't hunt. I don't know why fake supressor are even sold. Probably on the same lines as the fake cell phone antennas of the 90's.

fake suppressor makes your shot a little more accurate due to making your barrel longer if i'm not mistaken

The added weight on the end of the barrel WILL change barrel harmonics, might help...might not |

my theory is since the fake suppressor is a physical modification to the gun, it will affect your shot somehow, either it will reduce the muzzle flip or make your shot more accurate at longer distance, or both. there's no way to tell for sure unless you perform an experimental analysis. a ballistics lab can do this for you. it probably depends largely on the mass of the suppressor in relations to the mass of the barrel. if you want to gain some benefit from a fake suppressor, i would try to find the heaviest one i can get.

Mall ninjas and the other young bucks who think they are 'natural shots' because they play a computer game.
A fake suppressor is about separating you from your money. Isn't in any way part of the barrel and they do exactly nothing. As I recall, most of their makers say to not use 'em when shooting a real firearm too. "...a ballistics lab can do this for you..." The Call of Duty ballistics lab? Your shift key doesn't work.

if you wanna know for sure, you'll have to hire the services of an independent ballistics testing facility or as i call it, IBTF
but my theory is if you have a mass of metal hanging on the tip of your barrel, it WILL do something. think of the difference between a 4" barrel and a 5" barrel. but again that's my theory, it will have to be verified by an IBTF

What is being stated is just because you stick a tube on the end of the barrel, it doesn't make the barrel longer. The bullet is in free flight after it leaves the barrel of the gun. The extra weight might change the harmonics of the barrel, good or bad, you won't know until you've tried it.
Like was said, it's main purpose is to relieve you of some cash. Regards, Hobie |

to me, a gun is like functional art. when you're not shooting it, you can also display it in a case like an art piece. a fake silencer serves this purpose nicely and if it happens to also make my gun shoot better, that's a bonus Quote:

Wouldn't be surprised if they were the same people.
Fake suppressors are their for the folks who don't know better or posers. Kinda like putting a huge wing on a Honda that is a 105hp 4 cylinder.... I see some 2wd trucks with aftermarket 4x4 stickers...same thing. Mall ninjas.... |
