Next Advanced Army Carbine
For what its worth.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...rd-issue-rifle I do not get why you would to a conventional round when you supposedly are going to an advanced CTA type round. If its worth doing at all its worth doing it in the same leap. Otherwise the second part is not going to happen. We could have done the conventional 40 years ago.

Looks to be about like the 6.5 Grendel but with a 6.8mm bullet instead of the 6.5mm.
Or a version of the 6.8spc which is about the same performance as the 6.5 Grendel. In either case, it wouldn't require a complete redesign of the M4 platform... Acquiring the funds to completely replace all existing M4s would be a waste of money. Just get 6.5 or 6.8 uppers, use the standard lowers they have now, hopefully can still use the same GI issues mags and call it a day.

Is there anyone here that can explain the functioning of telescoping ammunition more fully?
Most of these articles like this briefly mention the ammunition, this article does talk about it a bit more than others. I’m pretty curious about how this ammunition actually works |

I don't get the mechanics as I have not seen a CTA chamber.
Idea is to surround the bullet with the powder in a solid form (some burns it all up some leaves a case) Its shorter (though bigger diameter) and a lot lighter (maybe 30% without the brass case) There are some 30 mm cannons now that are in service in Europe that have it.

The government will spend large sums of taxpayer money on procurement and testing, and then just adopt another minor upgrade to the M4.
Tell me I'm wrong. |

Considering what they are looking for with this upgrade has sat the bar really high. Too high IMO.
