New AR Build.. have some questions

Hey all... after having taken a few appleseeds and plenty of dry firing, I got good enough to shoot a 222/250 on the AQT with iron sights. That sufficiently surpasses Rifleman score of 210, and earned me my patch

funny story though, because on my carbine 16 inch RRA ar 15 I got a 209 and then the next few I plateaued out between 200-209. It seemed I just couldn't get that extra few points for Rifleman status. The instructor told me to use his 20 inch rifle length Ar 15. I friggen LOVED it! It felt fantastic, the sight radius made the huge difference, and the weight dampened the recoil just enough for me to make quicker follow up shots on the timed parts. Not huge, but important.

So this leads me to my point. I want to sell my carbine and build a 20 incher

I have never built an AR 15 and don't really know where to start. I'll certainly buy a book or two and educate myself, but I would also like to know what the TFL builders would do.

The criteria:
-20 inch barrel
-1:7 twist
-Chrome lined
-A2/A4 buttstock (quality)
-Quality receiver, handguard, trigger assembly, etc..

Cant build one for this.

I have read a chrome lined barrel is not as accurate.
I have one with a 20" heavy barrel but I would not want to hold it very long.

I have built 3 and no two are even close to being the same. Lots of options for uppers even 5.7x28.

Buy the best barrel you can afford...free float it..

wait a sec, how much money do you want to spend? If it was me, I'd buy another upper. You do know you can swap out uppers ...Right?

Brownells has a complete video series on how to build the AR15 on their website for free.

I looked at Delton and did not see a 20" rifle kit with a 1/7 barrel.

White Oak Armament has a Service Rifle upper in 1/7 twist if you can afford it and tolerate the extra weight.

Stripped lower (maker doesn't really matter)
Rock River LPK
Whatever A2 stock kit I can get my hands on
Maybe a Magpul MOE pistol grip... prefer those to the A2 type

Upper:
Bravo Company 20" Upper
BCM Gunfighter charging handle
BCM BCG
Rifle handguards
Rear sight of your choice

Easy enough. It would be a perfectly good rifle and BCM makes darned good barrels- my 16" BCM upper is astonishingly accurate; more so than I am.

BCM is known for making mil-spec tactical guns but they may not be the best choice for putting together a match-grade Upper.

-For a barrel, get a stainless/fluted barrel. You will marvel at the advantages.
-Get a 1:7 only if you plan on shooting heavier bullets 68-79gr. If you'll be shooting 55's or SS109's, get a 1:9.
-Stainless over chromed lined. Better accuracy.
-A2 buttstock is good.
-If you want QUALITY, get a VLTOR billet receiver. Must stronger and helps with the harmonics on heavy/long barrels.

How much do you want to spend?

Im looking to spend around 1400 tops on it. If I could id spend 600 on it but i understand that might not be realistic for what I want.

I want something that can go out to about 400 maybe 500 yards accurately (ill be using irons so anything past that will be too far for my eyes). Im sure chrome lined will be fine for that distance. But will BCM be a good choice for that far?? I only want combat accuracy..

If you want combat accuracy, BCM will give you that and more.

Are they found on national match guns out at Camp Perry? No, but then, they aren't intended for that.

I'll say it again: my 16" BCM upper is every bit as accurate as a person has a right to expect from a 5.56mm chambered combat type barrel. Not a 20"+ HBAR in .223 with a tight chamber, but that doesn't seem to be what you want.
