.38 &.357 mag brass

Hi new to forum, and reloading. Where can I find used .38 brass besides local ranges. They just won't sell any. And why no outside brass. Won't a go in the tumbler clean them up? Any advice helpful. Yes I read got some books. Now lookin for ammo components.

Welcome to the forum.

Pistol brass is nowhere near as critical as rifle brass. Even those of us who are purists with rifle brass and won't mix lots or load history, will scavenge every piece of pistol brass we can find on the ground if it fits a gun we own, and clean it up. Unless it's been there so long it has been corroded through or turned very dark brown, it usually works fine, and for low pressure loads like .38 Special target loads, even the deeply tarnished stuff often works. Just watch for cracks and splits. So, I don't know where you got the idea it might be otherwise?

Some indoor ranges don't allow you to police brass from beyond the firing line for safety reasons (the range is constantly hot). But most outdoor ranges don't have target runners, so they have to hold cease-fires to change targets then. Everyone polices brass when they do. If you are the only person at an outdoor public range you can usually pick up all you want.

If you are looking for new brass, Midway has it.

Some local gun shops sell once fired brass. Most of my brass is from ammo I bought before the Obamanation of America. I have a lot of range pickups,too. You could always buy new brassuntill you get enough to get started. Good luck.
