Otis Technology cleaning kits

any of you use the Otis kits to clean your firearms? I was thinking of getting the small caliber cleaning kit to use for my Winchester 9422. I don't quite trust myself to take down the rifle and put it back together properly, so I figured one of these kits would do the trick.

are these worth the money?

I have an "all caliber" kit and I like it. FYI, here is another option, same type of system, that I have and use more: http://www.patchworm.com/index.htm
It costs less $$$ and is simple. Use it with Ballistol.

I do not like non-rigid cleaning "cables"...I prefer a rigid cleaning rod with jags.

my understanding is that the cleaning cables used by Otis are nylon-coated and therefore do not harm the bore of a firearm

I use 'em for guns that require extensive take-down to clean a bore. I use one in particular... actually a Hoppe's bore snake, on Benelli M2s, where I have clamps on the barrels/magazines. Otherwise, I use 1-piece rods and guides.

I had one in the army and have a 5.56/7.62 for civi life and love it, I myself prefer it to the ridged muti-piece cleaning rods, also it seem more effective. chamber to muzzle not muzzle to chamber.

You're not understanding what I am getting at. The key to my statement is use of the word rigid...twice.

Also, you don't necessarily need to use the more expensive circular Otis patches to use it, I just learn where to poke holes in square patches and it works great, especially for smaller calibers.

I use one where I can't remove the barrel. It is kind of hard for me to pinch and thread the patch through the hole on the .22 cal. patch adapter. I have also heard of people getting the patch stuck in the barrel with it.

I got an Otis kit for my Henry .17HMR. Trying to force a patch on a rod was just not working well. The Otis system works well and I'm very satisfied with it. The cable is plastic coated and won't harm the bore and is pulled straight out so it has minimal, if any, contact with the bore. An excellent system if you can't remove the barrel and don't want to use a bore guide IMO.

Well, my unit issued OTIS kits to us (combat arms) before deployment. I have a small field OTIS kit and a more elaborate kit (again OTIS) and I have no qualms about em. They do have a lot of extra junk not essential to the task, but still serves its purpose fine. durable too. They get a thumbs up from me! I will add, Most of my fellow infantryman have taken a liking to paint brushes or barber brushes for clearing debris and dust. Does an exellent job and is fast! Food for thought...

I purchased a used Otis military issue cleaning kit off of ebay. Mine also came with the issued Gerber 600 multi-tool. It's a very handy kit for a day at the range.

I've been using Otis for years and a while back I decided to use my old cleaning rods and put those suckers away quick and broke out my Otis kit, just seem like more hassle than with the Otis kit. IMHO. I take my Otis kit to the range but I also take a 3 piece rod in case something gets stuck in the barrel, happened once, and the Otis cable just didn't cut it.

I have used nothing but Otis kits for over 20 years now...they can't be beat IMO.

Tens of thousands of rounds fired, hundreds of rifles cleaned...no damaged bores, and no bore guides.
