Opinnions on Pietta 1858 Rem 5 1/2" barrel

I have the 8" barrel and like it but I would like to have a shorter barrel for cowboy shooting and because it is lighter. Does anyone have one of the 5 1/2" ones. If so how do you like it?

I don't care that much about lighter, but a 5 1/2" barrel would defiantly help you clear leather more quickly. I don't have one, but I do think you would like it for CAS!

You are not allowed adjustable sights but I can't imagine they would give you any trouble for not having a front sight.

You can have adjustable sights in some classes.

If I got one from Cabelas I might sell my 8" . I wonder what I could get for it? I is in excellent condition.

Mrappe

A new steel frame from Cabelas is 199.00 plus shipping unless they are running a "free shipping for orders over 150.00" deal. That price is a special that has been running for about five months now (I am assuming it is still going on.) and as far as I know, it is the best deal going on a steel frame Pietta or Traditions 1858 Remington.

I'd say yours is worth 175.00 unless it has some extras. (bullet mold, extra cylinder or some such) When the Cabela's price goes back up, automatically yours is worth more.

The extra cylinders would be used in the 5 1/2" gun
