Uberti 45 colt

I found an octagon barreled 45 colt with tang sight and appears to be in really decent condition. Bluing appears to be more of a haze color than blue. Not parkerized. This one is right at $1k out the door. Are the Ubertis worth that much? I don't care much for the new and few Marlins I have seen. The Henry will run around $800.00 new without tax. I had one of the Rossi 92 models but with older eyes the sight radius is too short by a few inches for me. Tried the Skinner sight but didn't care much for it. Wouldn't chamber with factory or reloads half the time so it is gone. Doesn't Uberti import for several different companies??

Uberti IS the Italian manufacturer. Imported by several US distributors.

That seems a little pricey for the used condition it is in. Can you try haggling or is that as low as they will go? $800 for a new Henry is pretty cheap if you can find one locally.

A few years ago I was able to pick up a NIB 24" Uberti 1873 Special Sporting Rifle in 45 Colt for $1K, however, that was a steal at the time. I added a Lymon tang sight with target aperture and am having a blast with it and it's cousin, a 1866 Yellowboy Carbine, also in 45 Colt.

Like you, I also have a couple of Rossis, mine are in 357mag. The only caution I'd give for the Ubertis is that because they are patterned after the weaker toggle link actions of the 1860s & 1873 Winchesters, you'll need to limit your loads to a max of a standard pressure, 14,000psi loads. That's above cowboy loads but not the performance my full power 357mag loads do in my Rossis.

In fact, using 255grn bullets, I've found that the 19" carbine actually does better at longer ranges out to 400 yds than the 24" version. For about 200 yds though, the long sight radius (30") of the rifle length with a tang sight is great for us 'older' eyes guys.

The one I'm looking at is identical to yours in the top picture. They are asking 1200 but I can get out the door for 1k. They also have the Henry for 799.00 but it being new no haggle on price or tax.

The 1860 Henry is way kewl, podnuh. But the funky magazine and lack of foreend are not as good for shooting. King's Improvement really is an improvement.

Yep, I've shot a 1860 Henry version and the 1866 Winchester version is just so much more comfortable to shoot, especially in August after about 6 rds, and so much easier to load with the loading gate.

The 1860 Henry has the same type of toggle linkage as the 1873 and in a brass receiver instead of steel. I sure would not put anything in a Henry copy that I would not shoot in a 73 repro.

If it's a brass receiver then no I would not shoot hot loads., only cowboy ammo.

Hi Wendy, you can get that rifle new in box online for a grand. No way would I pay a grand for it used.

Absolutely NOT!!!!! It's not just the brass frame but the pins in the toggle link action that can't take the pressure of over 14,000psi loads. The Henry and Uberti 1860 model as well well as the Uberti 1866 and 1873 all use the same action design and all of them shouldn't see loads higher than a standard 45 Colt load (14,000psi). No Ruger Only, no Cor Bon, no Buffalo Bore.

I wasn’t sure if it was worth it or not. I load for my Vaquero so are those loads acceptable. Could possibly look for big boy steel.

I went to get the Uberti this morning if they would come down and they actually went up a 100 since last weekend. I did find a used Henry Brass for 650 out the door. I took some of the reloads I had for my Vaquero and the Hornady xtp 225 grain with oal of 1.60 no issue. Black Hills Factory no issue. Tried some lead a friend from here sent me he had casted at 1.620 and hung up with a serious core of getting them out. I am assuming 1.60 is longest oal I can get into this rifle which is Ok but I really liked the cast lead I use in the hand gun. It handle 9.5 grains of Unique no issues. Of course now it's pouring rain again. Can I put a tang sight on this rifle. It is carbine length.

With a 255grn bullet, 9.5grns of Unique is a full standard pressure 14,000psi load and even the 1860-1873 toggle link design is good with that load level. I run my Ubertis with 9.3grns of Unique as that's where I found a node they're decently accurate at.
