Tumbling media.
I have a sonic cleaner that does everything I need, so this is purely curiosity.
I have read about corn media and steel pins, so why not course sand or cat litter? Certainly where I am the latter two are a lot easier to find that either of the others for those who tumble here.

Sand would cut the heck out of your brass and thin it down quickly. Cat litter is nothing but dried clay and will turn to dust immediately from the impact of the brass which is harder.
Corncob and walnut are much tougher but much softer than sand so they have a polishing affect and will stand up to multiple uses, unlike cat litter. Steel pins need the water to dampen their blow to the brass and get a polishing affect from them. But they are hard enough to knock the carbon off the cases and the water, with some sort of soap, will encapsulate the carbon and keep it from re-attaching to the brass. Try the cat litter and water and let me know how that works. (You'd need the steel pins then to get the mud off them) |
