rust resistant finsh for LC9?

Been carrying my Ruger LC9 all summer and in this Texas heat I'm a pretty bad sweater. If I don't take the mag release outta the gun and clean/oil it every 2-3 days I start getting surface rust on it pretty bad, same goes for the rear of the slide.

I've decided that once it starts cooling off, I'm gonna go back to carrying my HK USP Compact and send the LC9 off to get a better rust resistant finish. I know there's a bunch of places that do finishes but I really don't wanna spend more than the LC9 cost and I would like to have it back before it starts warming up again. I'd like to stay with a black finish......so any suggestions on a finish?

Actually, Rustoleum is a good budget finish. Clean the slde with brake cleaner, spray paint the slide. If it wears or flakes, just strip it and repaint.

Brownells sells their Bake-On Lacquer in a dozen or so colors, it is tough as nails. Blast the gun, spray it, bake it for an hour, let it cool, reassemble.

Just to be clear, I'd like to send it off as I don't feel comfortable doing a refinish myself. Even when I bobtailed two 1911s myself, I had a local smith duracoat them for me after but he's no longer around and I'd like something tougher than duracoat. Say I have a $200 budget to refinish the slide/mag release/safety/trigger....any suggestions on who I should send it to and what finish? Thanks

May not be local, bit they do incredible work. I brought my new FNX-40 to be coated in OD Green. The local range/gun shop bring tons of new stuff to get camo/coated. They also do hydro dipping. Incredible stuff!

I have not tried these guys yet, but they have been on TFL and THR for a while, and I have never seen a word spoken against them. Some of those pics look great.

One of these days I'm going to give them a try. Have a look and see what you think.

If that does not work out, and you live between DFW and Austin, there is a guy who used to do a variety of refinishings--he is primarily a 1911 guy, and I don't know if he is into one-off slides, but if you want to talk to him, pm me.

Best, Rich

you decide; your budget

Send your gun to Accurate Plating & Weaponry (www.apwcogan.com) or Robar (www.robarguns.com).

Discuss your needs AND your budget. You'll get good advice.
