Dingoboy, slow down. Read. This a voting poll on ONE monthly contest thread. April 2009. There is only one thread to wade through. It is here. Yes, you must view the pics as they were posted.

We don't have a special viewer. A pic is a post. View the pics in the contest thread. Vote for them here in the voting thread. The contest threads are not discussion threads. The voting threads invite discussion. That is why they are different threads.

Of course you aren't being forced to wade through the pics. So, no, you don't have to wade through them.

If you ever decide to post in one of the monthly contests, be sure and read the rules first. If you can't find the rules for posting in a photo contest, PM me and I will point you to them.

For the first time since I began entering in these contests, I'm not voting for my own entry.

After re-reading the rules, I'm voting for Claybrook's image. His is the best example of a firearm at rest, pleasantly composed and technically perfect. I based my vote on this tip found in the rules:

Quote:
Make your photo image about the subject of your entry. It is permitted to submit an action photo, but the objective here is a static, clear photo of a firearm at rest.
Claybrook's photo is an exemplary study of a beautiful 1911. We should all post such fine work.

I'll have to step up my game for May.

Well, that IS the objective. But personally, I like a little creativity and artistry. But that's just me. A photo of just a firearm to me has no meaning other than "this is a gun". For example, with your photo entry I can take a look at it and come away with different meanings that give me more thought beyond just looking at a clear crisp photo of a firearm. His 1911 photo is surely a nice photo but your entry is also very good. Even the Teddy photo composition gives pause for it's subtle humor which is why it makes it in itself an interesting entry. There really are many good entry into this month's contest.

I voted claybrook again and all though that springer is a beauty my vote is mostly influenced from the lighting conditions.

As usual, very difficult to choose the best one. Many, many fine entries, and kudos to all who entered a pic.

Very true...I finally decided on Luis for getting all my vices in one pic ( minus the woman), Cossack was a close second for the beautiful scenery and classic lever.

All did a great job.

It's obvious some of us know something about taking a photo. I only dabbled in it as a hobby while overseas back in the late seventies, early eighties. I learned a lot in a short time. PDBreske's comments are those of a pro. He plays by the rules and excels in his own entries. PDBreske, Claybrook, Doogle and others in that class compete against their own last, best effort. That's the road to excellence.

If I presented a 1911 against an appropriate backdrop as a subject and let 50 members here supply their own lighting and take pictures with their own cameras, we'd get 50 photos different enough to have a field of 50 entries. So, the rule: "Make your photo image about the subject of your entry. It is permitted to submit an action photo, but the objective here is a static, clear photo of a firearm at rest." is not intended to limit the choices you have. We've been pretty lenient in that vein.

But PDBreske's comments do illustrate that he has no fear of competing while restricting himself to the letter of the rules. After all, getting more meaning out of a static shot than a mere, "this is a gun", is a measure of your creativity and artistry. Wouldn't you say?

Some of them are great pics but look a little to much like a stock photo off a website
I voted for #13
Just thought it was a great photo of a great gun

Yes, they were all good pics, but sorry to say, to me they were boring! That's why I voted for the one that was out of the ordinary & caught my attention in an unusal way!

Wow!

I'm new to this forum and have to say, you guy's have some real talent here! I expected mostly average shots, but a lot of them could easily make the cover of many firearms publications. Great work guys and it was REALLY tough to decide. I liked 4 or 5 about the same, but my eye kept coming back to one.

While the lighting and such wasn't as nice as others, Skans' USAS12 on the weight-bench was so appropriate I had to vote for it.

Pumping iron indeed.

Where's Doogle? He better come back around for May, he always brings the good stuff...

I had to vote for clembert because its a Sinlge Six and it's a play on other photographers, such as every "tactical" gun mag, putting knives, ammo, and such in every picture.

Well done, Angus Lincoln. Congratulations.

In my quote from the rules in my last post, I think the words "at rest", should be taken out.

I'll make that change. It should make no difference in our typical entry.
