If I were just starting in BP and knowing what I know now I would get a 50 caliber TC Hawken first or an Investarms 50 caliber (Cabelas) Hawken second. I have owned several BP rifles but never a smooth bore and the very best I owned was a TC Hawken I built from a kit. At 50 yards it would chew out one ragged hole in the target with PRBs and 50grs of 3F powder.
I used a 54 caliber Cabelas Hawken to kill my first Elk in a primative Colorado hunt. Most of the BP rifles I own now are Investarms made guns. My hands down favorite is a Cabelas Hawken kit in 45 caliber.
We used to have a spot to shoot in a gravel pit and the longest range was about 93 yards. We would set up 2x6x7" pieces of wood scrap I would get from work and shoot those into pieces too small to see at that range. I mostly shot the 45 and the Lyman Plains Rifle at that place and they both gave me all the accuracy I could ask for.
Not exactly what you asked for but I can at least vouch for the accuracy of the guns I spoke about.
