Chukar hunting

So I'm going chukar hunting this weekend with a buddy. Never hunted them before and I was wondering what should my setup be. I am using my Mossberg 500 12 gauge, and thinking of going with a modified choke and size 6 shot 3" lead. Should this be good enough? Anything I am missing or does anyone have some advice?

2-3/4" #6 shot always worked for me. Hunt from the top down or sidehill them, they love to run uphill to the top and then fly to the next mountaintop. Carry lots of water. Hope you're in good shape.

Are you hunting preserve or wild? I like 2 3/4" # 7 or 7 1/2 shot out of a mod. Have used #6`s and they`ll work fine.

I'm going hunting for them in a couple hours with my daughter. She'd never hunted for them before 3 days ago, now she's hooked. Their a blast. I just use 2 3/4, 1 ounce #6 for a touch longer reach, and in case of close pheasants. But all you need basically is a trap load and MOD choke.

I hunt them in Nevada Mountains. I use #4's. I have taken them up to 70 yards out using #4 shot. I use a Remington 1100 with a 26" barrel with an Improved Cylinder choke. The #4's break bones at distance...

Just to repeat what I learned from Patrick McManus, after chasing lots of Chukars the first few seasons I tried....

HUNT DOWN.

Climb first, then hunt down. You'll have much more success.

They are a fun hunt, and taste GREAT.
