Opinions on Marlin MR-7

Just bought a used, but unfired Marlin MR-7 in .270 from a trusted friend. He won it at the NRA banquet and had it in his safe since. It came with a sling, hard case, and a tasco 4x32. Probably going to swap that scope onto a .22 and replace it with a Nikon buckmaster 4-12x40. I paid $450 for the whole outfit. Its the NRA edition with a brass NRA medalion inlaid in the walnut stock. Its perfect. I like a .270, and I like the price, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks of these Marlin rifles compared to the industry standards (Rem 700, Win 70, Ruger M77). Are they in line with those quality rifles? Does anyone have any good or bad experiences to share?
