Kel Tec P3AT

So Katie the range lady let me shoot the used Kel Tec they had in the case. Amazingly I immediately shot it much better then I ever have been able to shoot the Beretta Pico. Am selling the Pico and will pick up Kel Tec Thursday. Actually I think the Pico is a well made gun. There was just something about it that I couldn't shoot it well. I think it has what I would call a sloppy trigger. Lotta people love their pico, more power to em. I'm going with the Kel Tec. Oh, and I got it for $175 which seems like a really good deal.

Life is good.

P3ATs are good guns for the money. 2 things you gotta watch out for...

#1 - Plastic mag catch. Always depress the mag release when slipping in a mag. Always push up on the mag BEFORE you depress the mag release when taking the mag out. Otherwise, the mag catch will wear and the mag begins to drop. It will eventually cause feeding problems. Better yet, swap the mag release out with a steel one.

#2 - Ejector can slip out when field stripping the little pistol. It's a tiny part that slides into a slot and is not bolted or held in other than by gravity and the slide (when it is installed).

The above is from personal experience...

Thanks Onward . . .

Thanks. I'll watch out for those things.

Any tips on where to find metal replacement mag release?

Life is good.

I own my second P3AT, because I let my FiL have my first one.

I also have an LCPII and a Pico. I hope to try them all together sometime soon, but of the three I like the feel of the P3AT the best. My main complaint about the Pico is that the trigger guard comes so far down that I can only get one finger onto the grip.

Prof Young,
You are right on re the Pico "sloppy" trigger I'm almost ready to give up on it even though I can shoot rite well with it. The problem for me is I have to "refind" the trigger after each shoot. No biggie on the range but not so good in a critical situation.

I own two. Love em both. I went with the extended mags on mine. There was a guy on the kel tec owners group that sold the metal mag releases.

Fluff n buff are sometimes in order on new kel tecs. YouTube has lots of vids doing this.

Twisted industries sells them.

Here's a link to the mag catch.

http://twisted.industries/product-category/p32p3at/

The company is established and has been around for years. I've purchased a number of sights and catches from them in the past. Unfortunately, the part is currently backordered.

I've had both the P3AT and the LCP. They were so similar that it was hard to tell them apart, when being fired. The Ruger was prettier.

My only problem was that the P3AT trigger guard was slightly smaller than the LCP, and when I fired it, my trigger finger would jam against the front of the trigger guard. It was painful enough that I later got the LCP.

I think that were I to get another very small gun, it might be the P32, and carry it ONLY when I can't easily carry something a bit bigger.

Thanks for link.

Thanks for link to maker of metal mag release button. At $24.99 I may investigate how many plastic ones I could buy for the same price.

Life is good.
