Battle of New Orleans rifle returned to the Confederate Museum (New Orleans)
Robert and Linda Melanon paid good money and exchanged some antique guns to get a Jacob Sheetz made rifle whose provenance traced back to the Battle of New Orleans. The trouble is that while they had possession, the store that sold it to them could not pass title onto them. Ultimately it was seized by the FBI and returned to the Museum.

Sad story for the owners, but wow, that rifle is in really good shape after 200 years.
My 3 times great-grandfather fought in the War of 1812. Wish I had his rifle. |
