Which AR style rim-fire rifle from Ruger?

Ever since Appleseed banned my S&W M&P15-22 from their events, I've searched for a good substitute which will readily accept AR height optics and BX-25 mags, which I already own. So far, these are the two candidates:

Ruger SR-22, going for around $580 in my area

If you already have ruger magazines, does that mean you already have a 10/22?

If so, do you really want whole additional rifle or just another stock?

This is the rifle I put together for someone else for Appleseed. The stock has ergonomic similarities to an AR carbine.

I have 3 kids that will be attending Appleseed, each with their own rifle. Two already have Rugers: a 10/22 & an American Rimfire (my little traditionalist). Both have optics mounted at the appropriate height for their stocks. My youngest runs the M&P15-22 with AR-specific optics in Steel Challenge matches, etc. The adjustable AR stock is also helpful, since this youngster isn't done growing, yet. Want to move the optics over from the S&W and borrow Ruger mags from siblings.

Would really rather that Appleseed reconsider their ban on 15-22's! We've never had a problem with ours, or anyone else's M&P rifle that we know, after thousands of rounds of all kinds of ammo!

Now, about those SR-22 & AR-22 rifles . . . . . .

You'd be better off getting a normal 10/22 and building it up for those prices.

It doesn't really 'feel' like an AR like the 15/22 would (controls are all wonky) but I can understand what you are going for and get the whole mag compatibly thing.

Honestly I would start with the archangel or tapco stuff first and see what you like or don't like from it and go from there. Nordic chassis is cool but unfortunately since the 10/22 is different the receiver rail height and a normal AR rail won't line up. Troy chassis is ok I guess but expensive and you can't change much of it. It blows dropping that much cash and finding out it isn't what u wanted.

There's a million different options for a tactical 10/22 but I highly suggest starting with a bonestock one and trying some of the cheaper options first. If it has a straight stock ar optics should work for it.

Out of those two id recommend the at stocked one. It's cheaper and lighter probably two good things for a younger new shooter. Less cost to repair and less weight to hold.

My newest 10/22 which is several years old came from the factory with the Tapco T6 stock which makes it a little more versatile. I think the 10/22 is very well built and capable of very good accuracy. Kinda ARish with the tapco stock.
