Brass scrapping
I've been throwing my damaged brass and non-reloadbale brass in a bucket for a while, proabbly have about 10 lbs of it now. Has anybody ever tried to take old ammo brass to a metal scrapper? Will they even take it? Is it worth anything, or am I just wasting space and packratting trash?

Most around me will not except "munitions" scrap. I would call and check before making the drive.

They all take it here in my area and pay a premium for it.
Just a word of caution; Make sure there is no live rounds or live primers in the mix. Just one bang and the situation could change quickly.

Does one need to remove the old spent primers first?
If some are nickel plated brass is that accepted? What might be the price of brass per pound (average now)? Sorry for nothing but questions. |

I include my spent primers, nickel plated brass is no problem. If in doubt check it with a magnet.
Price varies last I sold was 2 something a lb.

There is one place here that won't take the spent brass, he says the government won't let him. But the one about 3 miles up the road will take all the brass I bring him. They do dock me a little if they find a metal case that sticks to their magnet but the last I took in was a 5 gal. bucket full and it brought around $120.00. That same bucket is full again so I guess I'll go see what it's worth this year. Give your local scrap yard a call and ask if they take spent yellow brass and how much they might be paying, some pay different prices for it even in the same area.

Yep, all my old brass goes to the salvage dealers in town. Last time, it was bringing about $1.75/lb. Never had a need to remove the primers. Any yes, I also throw in my spent primers along with the cases. They don't add much to the weight but hey, why not? Better than throwing them in the trash.
